Effect of a Breathing Exercise on Respiratory Function and 6-Minute Walking Distance in Patients Under Hemodialysis: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Conclusions/Implications for Practice The 2-month breathing exercise effectively improved pulmonary function parameters (forced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume in 1 second) in patients under hemodialysis but did not affect 6MW distance. Hemodialysis nurses should strengthen their clinical health education and apply breathing exercise programs to reduce the pulmonary complications experienced by patients under hemodialysis. The Mediation and Suppression Effect of Demoralization in Breast Cancer Patients After Primary Therapy: A Structural Equation Model
Conclusions/Implications for Practice Demoralization was found to be a mediator that suppressed the relationships among stress, sleep disturbances, and psychological well-being in the adaptation process of patients with breast cancer after primary therapy. This article adds to the limited research on women with breast cancer after primary therapy who are in their initial 5 years of diagnosis. In addition, this study used structural equation model to find the plausible path relationships among the psychological factors involved in the well-being of women with breast cancer. Supporting patients with cancer and effectivel...

Relationships Between Job Satisfaction and Job Demand, Job Control, Social Support, and Depression in Iranian Nurses
The objective of this study was to explore the relationship between several work-related risk factors and job satisfaction in Iranian nurses. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted on 730 nurses from four public hospitals in, respectively, northern, southern, eastern, and western Iran. Variables in the job demand–control–support (JDCS) model were measured using the Job Content Questionnaire, and job satisfaction was measured using the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire. Results The mean score for job satisfaction was 62.94 ± 14.24, which is considered moderate. Nurses with a low level of job sat...

Effect of Scenario-Based Simulation Training on the Obstetrics and Gynecology Nursing Clinical Practicum
This study was conducted in an OB-GYN nursing course to determine the effect of simulation practices on clinical practice satisfaction, clinical stress, and self-confidence in nursing students. Methods A cluster randomized controlled experimental trial was conducted on 122 students (experimental group, n = 58; control group, n = 64). After theoretical training, all of the students applied six scenarios in the OB-GYN nursing simulation laboratory. The students in the experimental group began clinical practice after simulation training, whereas their peers in the control group began clinical practice without prior sim...

The Learning Effectiveness of High-Fidelity Simulation Teaching Among Chinese Nursing Students: A Mixed-Methods Study
Background High-fidelity simulation (HFS) is an interactive and complex experiential learning pedagogy. Given the limited and inconclusive evidence on the effectiveness of HFS in terms of improving student learning outcomes, a more thorough understanding of students' learning experiences and effects of HFS may inform the improvement of nursing training. Purpose The aim of this study was to examine the learning effectiveness score of HFS, its influencing factors, and the learning experience of nursing students. Methods A convergent parallel mixed-methods research design was adopted. Five hundred thirty-thr...

The Buffering Effect of Perceived Organizational Support on the Relationships Among Workload, Work–Family Interference, and Affective Commitment: A Study on Nurses
Conclusions/Implications for Practice Perceived organizational support was found to have both main and buffering effects on the emotional attachment of nurses toward their organizations. The findings support the importance of creating supportive work settings to alleviate the adverse effects on nurses of workload and work–family interference. (Source: Journal of Nursing Research)

Preventing Alveolar Osteitis After Molar Extraction Using Chlorhexidine Rinse and Gel: A Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
Conclusions/Implications for Practice The results support the effectiveness of both CHX rinse and gel in reducing the risk of AO after molar extraction. Each formulation provides unique benefits in terms of ease of application and cost. On the basis of the results of this study, the authors recommend that CHX gel be used immediately after molar extraction because of the convenience and cost-effectiveness of this treatment and that CHX rinse be used by the patient after discharge at home in combination with appropriate health education and case management. Utility of Equivalence and Cognition Models in Enhancing Validity of Translated Questionnaires: A Methodological Example Using the Heart Quality-of-Life Questionnaire
Conclusions The potential use of the cognition-and-equivalence model for modified cognitive interviewing and the application of the six equivalence types of Herdman et al. were supported by the HeartQoL-BM showing functional equivalence with its source. HeartQoL-BM is a potentially valid measure of health-related quality of life for patients with ischemic heart disease independent of conditions such as angina, myocardial infarction, and heart failure. Factors Affecting Quality of Life Among the Elderly in Long-Term Care Hospitals
This study was designed to explore the factors affecting quality of life among older people living in long-term care hospitals in South Korea. Methods Older adult patients (N = 202) in three long-term care hospitals completed measures of cognitive functions, depression, care dependency, and interactions between nurse and patient and a quality-of-life assessment tool. Univariate analyses were used to examine the relationships among these variables, and a multiple linear regression analysis was used to explore the extent to which these variables predicted quality of life in these patients. Results The significa...

Person-Centered Care Environment Associated With Care Staff Outcomes in Long-Term Care Facilities
Conclusions/Implications for Practice The study findings indicate that working in a person-centered care environment is key to higher job satisfaction, which is a significant predictor of turnover intention among staff in long-term care facilities. To recruit and retain qualified staff to provide high-quality person-centered care in long-term care facilities, a supportive work environment is crucial. Fostering a person-centered care environment will ultimately improve quality of care for residents. (Source: Journal of Nursing Research)
