Volumetry and Surgical Grading Systems for Vestibular Schwannoma Size Assessment and their Relationship to Postoperative Facial Nerve Function
Conclusions The results of our study allow direct comparison of studies on surgery versus radiotherapy of VS. The data allow for translation of tumor sizes based on different grading systems. Comparison of microsurgical, radiotherapeutic and radiosurgical approaches should concentrate on patients with large tumors. Whereas smaller tumors were rarely associated with severe facial palsy, large tumors did not exclude the possibility of weak or no palsy 6 months after surgery. Ocular Trauma with Ophthalmic Artery Injury as a Rare Cause of Subarachnoid Hemorrhage: a Case Report and Review of the Literature
Conclusion Due to similar physiologic aspects, this type of bleed mimics many aspects of aneurysmal SAH. In this case, we observed no hydrocephalus or the development of delayed cerebral ischemia. This represents, however, the first reported case treated by placement of a flow diverter stent to prevent rebleeding and pseudoaneurysm formation. Chiari Type I Malformation Presenting with Unilateral Hearing Loss
Conclusion Chiari type I malformation can present solely with hearing loss. Improvement after surgical decompression is possible. This phenomenon is not emphasized well enough within the neurologic community. In this report, we present a summary of the pathophysiology and management in Chiari type I malformations. Flow Reversal and Cure in a Case of Giant Intracranial Aneurysm: A Case Report
We describe the case of an 11-year-old girl having a giant anterior circulation aneurysm. The ipsilateral internal carotid artery was entirely blocked and the aneurysm was supplied by posterior circulation. Following a high-flow bypass that connected the external carotid artery to the middle cerebral artery, the giant aneurysm thrombosed spontaneously. We discuss several relatively rare and unique features of the case. Transdural Anastomotic Aneurysm in Association with Moyamoya Disease: A Rare and Troublesome Neurosurgical Entity
We present an illustrative case of TAA in association with MMD. To further explore this rare entity, a comprehensive literature review was also conducted. Our illustrative patient experienced spontaneous remission of the aneurysm during follow-up. By literature review, 12 patients with 13 TAAs, including our case, were identified. The patients aged from 10 to 74 years (46.3 ± 17.4). Eleven (92%) of the patients presented with intracranial hemorrhage, and 1 TAA (8%) was incidentally found. The responsible transdural collaterals were from the middle meningeal artery, occipital artery, internal maxillary artery, and opht...

Pineal Apoplexy: A Case Series and Review of the Literature
Conclusion Clinical significance of hemorrhagic pineal apoplexy ranges from an asymptomatic course to rapid deterioration and death. In patients with mild symptoms, observation is indicated, whereas surgical treatment is reserved for severe cases presenting with obstructive hydrocephalus and includes cerebrospinal fluid diversion, resection of apoplectic pineal lesions, or both. Vertebrobasilar Dolichoectasia, Hypoplastic Third Ventricle, and Related Biventricular Hydrocephalus: Case Report and Review of the Literature
Conclusions The natural clinical history of patients affected by VBDE is unfavorable with 7.8 years of median survival. The therapeutic strategy is usually conservative and the role of antiplatelets or oral anticoagulants is still debated. In selected patients, ventriculoperitoneal shunt to resolve intracranial hypertension caused by biventricular hydrocephalus is the most effective treatment. In our opinion, chronic third ventricle compression could lead to anatomic–pathologic alterations like the third ventricle hypoplasia documented in our report. Decompressive Craniectomy in Pregnant Women
We present the case of a 39-year-old woman in the 24th week of pregnancy who suffered a right malignant MCA infarction that eventually required DC. The patient delivered a healthy baby and underwent a second surgery for cranioplasty 7 months later. We present both this case and a review of the literature, including all cases of DC in pregnant women published to date. Pin Method for Endoscopic Lumbar Interbody Fusion
Conclusion? Two cases of L4/L5 grade 2 spondylolisthesis with neurogenic claudication were treated with endoscopic lumbar interbody fusion with 1-year follow-up, and the visual analog scale (VAS) score, Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) score, EuroQol five-dimensional questionnaire (EQ-5D, %) score, and modified Macnab score all improved greatly in both. The author developed an original, cheap, accessible, and safe method called the pin method, which can be used in both full-endoscopic and biportal surgery and can apply to various approaches and has no limitation on the size and shape of the cage. Robot-Assisted Stereotactic Shunting as a Novel Treatment for Pontine Glioependymal Cysts
J Neurol Surg A Cent Eur Neurosurg DOI: 10.1055/s-0041-1726109In this case report, the authors describe the first case of a glioependymal cyst of the brainstem managed by robot-assisted, stereotactic, cysto-ventricular shunting. Glioependymal cysts are rare congenital cystic lesions that are thought to form by displacement of ependymal cells during the embryonal period. Glioependymal cysts have been reported in a variety of different locations within the central nervous system. However, glioependymal cysts of the brainstem have only been described once before. Here, we report the case of a 53-year-old man who was referred ...

Magnetic Resonance Imaging Findings and Clinical Outcomes in the Early Postoperative Period after Full Endoscopic Diskectomy for Lumbar Disk Herniation
Conclusion Postoperative MRI findings within 1 week of FED showed grade C or D residual disk material in 24 of 33 patients (73%). Clinical symptoms improved in the early postoperative period, even though residual disk bulging was present. Persisting residual bulging in the early stage following surgery may not correlate with clinical symptoms.
