The Transformation of Intracranial Subdural Hygroma to Chronic Subdural Hematoma Following Endoscopic Spinal Surgery: A Case Report
Conclusions We concluded that a spinal cerebrospinal fluid leakage can result in an intracranial subdural hygroma. Intracranial subdural hygromas and hematomas after lumbar spinal surgery should be cautiously assessed and treated. Fatal Acute Pneumocephalus after Bilateral Drainage for Chronic Subdural Hematomas: Case Report
Conclusion Pneumocephalus is an underestimated but potentially devastating complication. Both intraoperative avoidance and postoperative prevention should be utilized to avoid subdural air ingress, and thus evade potentially fatal complications. Hemifacial Spasm: Comparison of Results between Patients Older and Younger than 70 Years Operated on with Microvascular Decompression
Conclusions MVD is an effective treatment option in elderly patients with HFS as well as in younger patients. Age itself seems to be no relevant contraindication or, alternatively, risk factor regarding MVD. Full-Endoscopic Lumbar Decompression with Minimal Nerve Root Retraction for Impending Neurologic Deficit in Degenerative Lumbar Spine Diseases
Conclusions Minimal nerve root retraction during full-endoscopic spine surgery is safe and effective for treatment of the impending neurologic deficit. We could achieve a thorough decompression of the affected nerve root with acceptable clinical outcome and minimal postoperative morbidity. The Impact of Surgery-Related Muscle Injury on Prevalence and Characteristics of Acute Postcraniotomy Headache – A Prospective Consecutive Case Series
Conclusion Surgery-related muscle damage may be an important predisposing factor for AHAC. Therefore, if a transmuscular approach is unavoidable, the neurosurgeon should be aware of the need for adequately adjusted intra- and postoperative analgesia in these cases. Iatrogenic Intracranial Hypotension after Surgery of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis due to a Misplaced Screw within the Thoracic Thecal Sac
We present the case of a postoperative intracranial hypotension due to a misplaced intrathecal screw. Although typical symptoms such as orthostatic headache were present immediately after surgery, diagnosis was hidden until 20 years later, resulting in a disastrous clinical course. Spontaneous Hematomyelia Associated with the Use of Non vitamin K Antagonist
J Neurol Surg A Cent Eur Neurosurg DOI: 10.1055/s-0041-1728768Vitamin K antagonists have been frequently prescribed as anticoagulants with the potential side effect of spontaneous hematomyelia with a poor prognosis. However, to our knowledge, there has been no report of spontaneous hematomyelia combined with the use of a nonvitamin K antagonist. A 63-year-old man presented with left leg weakness, impaired sensation, and urinary retention while taking rivaroxaban (nonvitamin K antagonist) for 4 months for atrial fibrillation. Anticoagulant agents were discontinued. Methylprednisolone pulse therapy was administered without...

Clinical Efficacy and Safety Profile of Anterior Thalamic Stimulation for Intractable Epilepsy
Conclusions ANT DBS appears to be a safe and efficacious treatment, particularly in patients with refractory partial seizures (three-quarters of patients gained at least 50% seizure reduction after 5 years). ANT DBS reduces most effectively the seizures originating in the temporal and frontal lobes. The published results of ANT DBS highlight promise and hope for patients with intractable epilepsy. Distinct Behavior of Traumatic versus Nontraumatic Intracerebral Hematomas: Different Biology or Impact of Age?
Conclusion Our data reveal a significant heterogeneity within the traumatic series. Whereas younger patients show an excellent outcome, the elderly population of the traumatic cases demonstrates a poor outcome similar to that of the nontraumatic cohort. HE under NOACs rather than under VKAs is more likely in the elderly after TBI. Larger prospective trials are warranted to elucidate the potential individual underlying molecular mechanisms for the development of an ICH and HE in these diseases. The Sensorineural Hearing Loss Related to a Rare Infratentorial Developmental Venous Angioma: A Case Report and Review of Literature
Conclusion Although DVA is mostly benign and asymptomatic, complications such as hemorrhage rarely occur. Hearing loss is an extremely rare presentation that can be attributable to the compression effect on the cranial nerve VII to VIII complex. In the case of compression effect or progression of symptoms, surgical intervention is necessary. A good clinical outcome could be expected postoperatively.
