Treatment of an Elusive Symptomatic Sinus Pericranii: Case Report and Review of the Literature
We describe the case of a 7-year-old girl with an SP who experienced intermittent visual, motor, and sensory symptoms not previously described in the literature. Her symptoms resolved after surgical treatment of the SP. We propose a mechanism for her symptoms and the rationale for the role of neurosurgical intervention along with a review of the literature. Surviving a Self-inflicted Transorbital Pen Intrusion to the Cerebellum: Case Report
Conclusion Surgical management of removal of intracranial foreign bodies is no routine procedure. Although some would favor a large surgical exposure, we could not think of an approach to do so without maximum surgical efforts. We opted for a minimal surgical procedure with immediate CT scan and achieved an optimal result. We find this case to be worth considering when deciding on a strategy in the future. Differential Diagnosis in Hypophysitis: First Report on a Spindle Cell Rhabdomyosarcoma of the Pituitary Gland
We present a very rare case of pituitary metastasis of spindle cell rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS). Our patient presented with headache, visual disorder, panhypopituitarism, and diabetes insipidus. Due to tumor expansion, resection was not possible, so diagnosis was confirmed by biopsy, and chemotherapy and irradiation were administered. Our patient showed widespread spindle cell RMS, which harbors a mutation of myogenic differentiation 1 (MYOD1) and is associated with a poor prognosis. Even high-risk patients can show a remission after chemotherapy and irradiation. In the cases with indistinct lesions in the sella region, pituita...

A New Insight in Nonaneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage: the Potential Role of the Internal Jugular Veins
Conclusions This is the first study investigating the correlation between jugular stenosis and the occurrence of na-SAH. The impaired venous outflow due to reduced venous caliber could result in an engorgement of the upstream intracranial veins with transient hypertensive phases facilitating ruptures. Further larger prospective studies are necessary to confirm these data. Relationship of Change in Cervical Curvature after Laminectomy with Lateral Mass Screw Fixation to Spinal Cord Shift and Clinical Efficacy
Conclusion After LCSF, 53.8% of the patients developed loss of cervical curvature. A smaller cervical curvature resulted in a shorter spinal cord drift distance. Loss of cervical curvature was related to AS severity but not improvement of neurologic function or incidence of C5 palsy. The Role of Delayed Radiotherapy Initiation in Patients with Newly Diagnosed Glioblastoma with Residual Tumor Mass
Conclusion Time to irradiation had no significant influence on OS of the entire cohort. Nevertheless, a statistically nonsignificant survival prolongation could be observed in patients with residual tumor volume > 2 mL when admitted to radiotherapy within 28 days after surgery. Matrix Metalloproteinase-9 is Involved in the Fibrotic Process in Denervated Muscles after Sciatic Nerve Trauma and Recovery
J Neurol Surg A Cent Eur Neurosurg DOI: 10.1055/s-0041-1731750Fibrosis of the injured muscles is a problem of recovery from trauma and denervation. The aim of the work was to investigate the interconnection of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (ММР-9) activity in denervated muscles with fibrosis and to estimate its role in nerve restoration by the epineurial suture, fibrin-based glue, and polyethylene glycol hydrogel. The activity of matrix metalloproteinases was estimated by gelatin zymography. Collagen density in muscles was determined histochemically. An increased level of the active MMP-9 is associated with the fibrous cha...

Pregnancy Outcomes in Refractory Epilepsy Patients with Vagus Nerve Stimulation: Long-Term Single-Center Experience
Conclusions The study results confirmed a high rate of obstetric interventions in patients with VNS. Although no teratogenic effect of VNS has been proven, the higher incidence of children exposed to VNS needing special education requires attention. Subcortical Stimulation with Tip of Ultrasound Aspirator
Conclusion A method is presented using existing stimulation and wiring devices by which simultaneous subcortical stimulation and ultrasonic aspiration are applied with the same tool. Surgical Outcome of Large Solid Posterior Fossa Hemangioblastoma without Preoperative Embolization
Conclusion Our treatment strategy is of circumferential dissection followed by en bloc excision, which is the optimal treatment of large solid hemangioblastoma. The use of adjuncts as color duplex sonography and indocyanine green video angiography may help complete tumor excision with a lesser risk of complication. Preoperative embolization may not be needed to resect large solid posterior fossa hemangioblastoma, including those at the cerebellopontine angle location.
