Acetazolamide, Short Bed Rest, and Subfascial Off-Suction Drainage in Preventing Persistent Spinal Fluid Leaks from Incidental Dural Tears
Conclusions In this study, acetazolamide was well tolerated by the patients and, in addition to short bed rest (72 hours) and off-suction subfascial drainage, did not result in persistent CSF leakage in any patient. A prospective placebo-controlled study is beneficial to confirm the efficacy of acetazolamide in preventing CSF leakage. Oblique Angled Retractor for Lumboperitoneal Shunt Implantation via Lateral Abdominal Laparotomy
Conclusion An oblique-angled retractor helps confirm the accurate placement of the tip of the retractor blades, even in obese patients in whom the retractor often interferes with the ribs and/or thighs. The Role of Diskectomy in Reducing Infectious Complications after Surgery for Lumbar Spondylodiscitis
Conclusions Overall, intraspinal relapse of surgically treated pyogenic diskitis was low in our retrospective series. The choice of surgical technique was not associated with a significant difference. However, a somewhat higher rate of wound infections requiring revision in the group where no diskectomy was performed has to be weighed against a longer duration of surgery in an already ill patient population. Potential Contribution of Ultrasonography Assistance for the Safe and Steady Procedure of Endoscopic Intracerebral Hematoma Evacuation: A Retrospective Cohort Study
Conclusions US-assisted hematoma evacuation is an effective procedure that can assist in the precise insertion of the puncture cannula and exclusion of the residual hematoma. US might contribute toward improving the accuracy of each step of the procedure, thus leading to better clinical outcomes. Surgical Indications and Outcomes of Postmeningitis Subdural Collection in Infants: Single Tertiary Care Center Experience
Conclusions Persistent fever, seizures, and bulging fontanel, in the presence of PMSC, were found to be the indications for surgical intervention in PMSC. Drainage of PMSC and continuation of antibiotics is a safe and effective modality for treatment in PMSC, with a reasonable outcome and acceptable rate of morbidity and mortality. Craniotomy should be reserved for those with thick pus collection, as burr hole surgery can be used to achieve the goal in the majority of patients. Comparison of 3D-printed navigation template-assisted pedicle screws versus free-hand screws for scoliosis in children and adolescents: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions Compared with the traditional free-hand technique, the 3D-printed guide template is a promising technique with higher accuracy and safety in screw placement for the surgical treatment of scoliosis in children and adolescents and is worth popularizing and validating by more prospective clinical studies. Can currently suggested quality indicators be transferred to meningioma surgery? – a single-centre pilot study
Conclusions: Classical quality indicators in neurosurgery have proved to correlate with considerable deterioration of the patient´s health in meningioma surgery and thus should be taken into consideration for application in meningioma patients. The occurrence of a new postoperative neurological deficit is common and procedure specific. Thus, this should be elucidated for application as a complementary quality indicator in meningioma surgery. Advantages of Revision Transforaminal Full-Endoscopic Spine Surgery in Patients who have Previously Undergone Posterior Spine Surgery
Conclusions Clinical outcomes of revision TF-FES in patients with a history of posterior lumbar spine surgery were acceptable (excellent and good in 73.4% of cases). TF-FES can preserve the posterior structures and avoid scar tissue and adhesions. Therefore, TF-FES could be an effective procedure for patients who have previously undergone posterior lumbar spine surgery. Hyperacute in-Stent Thrombosis Causing Large Vessel Occlusion after Stent-Assisted Aneurysm Coiling Secondary to Complete Clopidogrel and Prasugrel Resistance: a Case Report
J Neurol Surg A Cent Eur Neurosurg DOI: 10.1055/a-1877-0421Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) is standard treatment for endoluminal stent insertion, and complete resistance to DAPT is rare. A case of in-stent thrombosis occurring 3 hours after stent-assisted coiling of internal carotid artery aneurysm is presented despite compliance with DAPT. Platelet function tests (PFTs) revealed complete clopidogrel and prasugrel resistance.
