Comparison of the Clinical Outcomes Between Early and Delayed Transplantation After SARS-CoV-2 Infection
J Korean Med Sci. 2024 Apr 15;39(14):e137. doi: 10.3346/jkms.2024.39.e137.ABSTRACTOur study analyzed 95 solid organ transplant (SOT) and 78 hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) recipients with prior coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Patients who underwent transplantation within 30 days of COVID-19 infection comprised the early group, and those who underwent transplantation post-30 days of COVID-19 infection comprised the delayed group. In the early transplantation group, no patient, whether undergoing SOT and HSCT, experienced COVID-19-associated complications. In the delayed transplantation group, one patient each...

Prevalence and Associated Factors of Depression and Anxiety Among Healthcare Workers During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic: A Nationwide Study in Korea
CONCLUSION: In Korea, during the COVID-19 pandemic, HCWs commonly suffered from mental health problems, including depression and anxiety. Regularly checking the physical and mental health problems of HCWs during the COVID-19 pandemic is crucial, and social support and strategy are needed to reduce the heavy workload and psychological distress of HCWs.PMID:38599597 | PMC:PMC11004773 | DOI:10.3346/jkms.2024.39.e120 (Source: Journal of Korean Medical Science)

COVID-19 Vaccine Injury Compensation Program: Lessons Learned From a Review of 10 Implementing Countries
This article reviewed the Vaccine Injury Compensation Programs in 10 major countries to present implications for improving the Korean system. Expanding the scope of national accountability is essential to compensate for the consequences of adhering to national policies during public health crises. Therefore, valuable insight can be obtained from examining the systems in Germany, Japan, and Taiwan, which have implemented more relaxed criteria for determining causality in compensation cases; Thailand's system, which provides the mandatory payment of preliminary compensation for damage caused by vaccination; systems in German...

Understanding the Fluctuations in Korea's Suicide Rates: A Change-Point Analysis and Interrupted Time Series Analysis
CONCLUSION: The marked fluctuations in Korea's suicide rate during the 2000s may be largely attributed to improvements in suicide classification, with potential implications beyond socio-economic factors. These findings suggest that the actual prevalence of suicides in Korea in the 2000s might have been considerably higher than officially reported.PMID:38599599 | PMC:PMC11004772 | DOI:10.3346/jkms.2024.39.e125 (Source: Journal of Korean Medical Science)

Association Between Individual Air Pollution (PM < sub > 10 < /sub > , PM < sub > 2.5 < /sub > ) Exposure and Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes in Korea: A Multicenter Prospective Cohort, Air Pollution on Pregnancy Outcome (APPO) Study
CONCLUSION: Exposure to high concentrations of PM10 and PM2.5 is strongly correlated with the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes. Exposure to high levels of PM10 and PM2.5 during the second trimester and entire pregnancy, respectively, significantly increased the risk of PTB and GDM. Exposure to high levels of PM10 and PM2.5 during the first trimester of pregnancy considerably increased the risk of having SGA infants. Our findings highlight the need to measure individual particulate levels during pregnancy and the importance of managing air quality in residential environment.PMID:38599601 | PMC:PMC11004777 | DOI:10.3346/jk...
