Effects of Transport to Trauma Centers on Survival Outcomes Among Severe Trauma Patients in Korea: Nationwide Age-Stratified Analysis
CONCLUSION: We found out trauma centers showed better clinical outcomes for adult and elderly groups, excluding the pediatric group than non-trauma centers. Further research is warranted to evaluate and develop the response system for pediatric severe trauma patients in Korea.PMID:38374629 | PMC:PMC10876434 | DOI:10.3346/jkms.2024.39.e60 (Source: Journal of Korean Medical Science)

The Impact of Withdrawing or Withholding of Life-Sustaining Treatment: A Nationwide Case-Control Study Based on Medical Cost Analysis
This study measured the impact of the Decisions on Life-Sustaining Treatment Act by analyzing medical cost data from the National Health Insurance Service-National Sample Cohort. After identifying the patients who died in 2018 and 2019, the case and control groups were set using the presence of codes for managing the implementation of life-sustaining treatment with propensity score matching. Regarding medical costs, the case group had higher medical costs for all periods before death. The subdivided items of medical costs with significant differences were as follows: consultation, admission, injection, laboratory tests, im...

Trends in Healthy Life Expectancy (HALE) and Disparities by Income and Region in Korea (2008-2020): Analysis of a Nationwide Claims Database
CONCLUSION: A subgroup with a low health level was identified through the HALE results, and it was confirmed that improving the health level of this population can reduce health inequalities and improve health at the national level. Further exploration of the HALE calculation methodology may help in the development of effective policies such as prioritizing interventions for health risk factors.PMID:38374624 | PMC:PMC10876431 | DOI:10.3346/jkms.2024.39.e46 (Source: Journal of Korean Medical Science)

Variation in the Allergenicity of Scrambled, Boiled, Short-Baked and Long-Baked Egg White Proteins
CONCLUSION: We identified minimally reduced allergenicity in scrambled EW and extensively decreased allergenicity in long-baked EW comparing to boiled and short-baked EW as well as raw EW. By applying the results of this study, we would be able to provide safer dietary guidence with higher quality to egg allergic children.PMID:38374627 | PMC:PMC10876437 | DOI:10.3346/jkms.2024.39.e54 (Source: Journal of Korean Medical Science)
