Teledermatology Viewpoint: Diaper Rash
Teledermatology is a term to describe the provision of dermatologic medical services through telecommunication technology. In store-and-forward teledermatology, patient medical information (including history and visual data) obtained in one location is transferred electronically to a provider who is in another location (Roman & Jacob, 2014). The construct of this column is such that cases are presented in a standardized teledermatology reader format. This is a case of erythematous plaques with scattered erosions in the perineum. Case Study: Cutaneous Renal Cell Carcinoma
Cutaneous renal cell carcinoma is a rare finding in the outpatient dermatology clinic. This case portrays an uncommon presentation of cutaneous metastases and provides an overview of the epidemiology and clinical presentation of cutaneous renal cell carcinoma. It also highlights the need to consider cutaneous metastases as a diagnosis in patients, especially those with known underlying malignancies. The Lymphatic Theory of Notalgia Paresthetica
Notalgia paresthetica is a dermatologic condition with prominent primarily left unilateral pruritis and raised erythematous rash with hyperpigmentation at the medial or inferior scapula. The etiology is unknown. A comprehensive review of the literature was performed with a structured analysis of previous theories. There is no consistent imaging or functional test to support any of the previously proposed mechanisms. This is a case of a pruritic, photodistributed rash on the arms and chest of an adult patient who recently started a new medication. A multiple-choice question is presented, and readers will be challenged to identify the correct drug that triggered this rash based on case presentation and patient history.
