Minors and Online Marijuana Accessibility —Navigating the Digital Backdoors—Reply
In Reply We would like to sincerely thank Simon for his thoughtful comments and passionate response to our Research Letter. As Simon noted, our interest in investigating the ease of access to marijuana dispensaries stemmed from the assumption that it is often simple for minors to navigate the ever-growing digital landscape, enabling underage access to potentially harmful products. Our study found shortcomings in age-verification procedures and transactions, where approximately 1 in 5 online dispensaries required no formal age verification during the purchasing process. Simon ’s expertise brings a unique psychosocial lens...

Minors and Online Marijuana Accessibility —Navigating the Digital Backdoors
To the Editor The study by Terala et al on minors ’ access to marijuana through online dispensaries emphasizes the concerning ease with which minors are able to obtain marijuana online. Their research offers a detailed depiction of the burgeoning digital marijuana marketplace. It seamlessly connects the industry’s growth to the challenges of re gulatory oversight, a problem evident in the expanding medical cannabis sector. The authors’ exploration of this matter is commendable, unearthing pressing truths that need attention. Comments on Sports Participation and Transgender Youths
To the Editor We are writing to express concerns with the piece by Sin et al advocating for including transgender youth in sports based on gender identity rather than sex. The authors state that sports participation by transgender youth is banned in many states. This is a misrepresentation, as no state bans youth from participating in sports. Some states require sports participation to be on the basis of sex, not gender identity. (Source: JAMA Pediatrics)

Stepping Systematically Forward Toward Health Equity in Sickle Cell Disease
The dynamic process of transitioning from pediatric to adult health care for people with sickle cell disease (SCD) is complicated by challenges that lie at the intersectionality of medical, social, economic, and environmental factors. Sickle cell disease is a biologically based inherited blood disorder that can be traced to geographic origins. It is not race limited, yet it is unquestionably associated with racism, bias, and inequity. Systems-based inequities in drug development, discordant allocation of resources, access to care, treatment of pain, and quality of care contribute to poor health care outcomes for people liv...

Recommendations for Reporting Research About Racial Disparities in Medical and Scientific Journals
Research investigating racial disparities in health care and health outcomes is critically important to designing effective interventions to improve health for all. Knowing the demographic characteristics of the study population of interest is a key step in ensuring generalizable research and appropriate interpretation of data. Despite good intentions, errors are often made in the presentation and interpretation of findings in racial disparity research. These errors have high stakes: research reports have directly contributed to systemic health inequities through the perpetuation or creation of mistruths and race-based ass...
