Decoding the Association Between Body Composition in Preterm Birth and Hypertension in Childhood —Reply
In Reply We thank Casirati et al for their thoughtful letter and interest in our study. We agree that body mass index (BMI) is a limited measure of body composition because it does not differentiate between fat mass and muscle mass. We also appreciate their suggestion that comprehensive body composition assessment using techniques such as air-displacement plethysmography, dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry, magnetic resonance imaging, and ultrasound may be necessary to understand the association between birth weight, postnatal weight gain, and hypertension.
