The Use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine and Quality of Life in Patients With Hip and Knee Osteoarthritis
This study was designed as a descriptive, consecutive survey of pre-arthroplasty patients due to hip and knee OA. Data were collected by the Personal Information Form, Western Ontario and McMaster Universities (WOMAC) Index, and EQ-5D-5L quality-of-life scale. Logistic regression was used to determine the risk factors of CAM usage; 74.4% of the patients used CAM methods. The most frequently used methods of CAM were biologically based herbal therapies. Living Through COVID-19: A Family Experience
Through qualitative inquiry grounded in story theory, this study described the impact of COVID-19 on a 5-member family. Using conventional content analysis, 8 themes were abstracted and organized around the story plot of being exposed, facing the challenge, and moving to resolution. Essential Oils Can Mitigate Adverse Effects of Prolonged Masking in the Hospital Setting
Adverse symptoms of prolonged masking were reported by personnel. A drop of essential oil was added to the mask to mitigate these effects and significantly lessened symptoms. Symptoms declined by almost half, including anxiety, nausea, and indigestion. This simple intervention can mitigate adverse effects of prolonged masking in the hospital setting. The Effect of Massage and Progressive Relaxation Exercises on Pain Intensity and Menstrual Symptoms in Students With Primary Dysmenorrhea: A Randomized Controlled Trial
A total of 97 female students, 50 in the intervention group and 47 in the control group, were included in this pretest-posttest design randomized controlled study. Massage and progressive relaxation exercises are self-administered practices that are easy to adopt, with no side effects, and have beneficial effects on pain, sweating, fatigue, and gastrointestinal and central nervous system signs. So, it can be asserted that when applied together, massage and progressive relaxation exercises could be more effective in reducing menstrual symptoms than applying them separately.
