Nontraditional and Home-Based Self-management Interventions in Cancer Patients With Pain: A Mixed-Method Systematic Review
One or 2 decades ago, oncologists focused on only cancer treatments or acute care related to cancer. Since cancer care is considered as long-term cares, cancer patients require self-management (SM) ability or skill to manage their symptoms and daily cares. This mixed-method review is to evaluate quantitative and qualitative studies, which were conducted using non-traditional SM interventions for cancer pain based. This review also explores the process of SM in the chronic care model (CCM). PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, and Wiley were used from 2011 to 2018. The Effect of Auricular Acupressure and Positive Group Psychotherapy With Motivational Interviewing for Smoking Cessation in Korean Adults
This study used a randomized controlled trial design. Participants were randomly assigned to 1 of 3 groups: group 1 (counseling and auricular acupressure), group 2 (counseling and placebo acupressure), and the control group (self-help for smoking cessation). Positive group psychotherapy and auricular acupressure were performed once a week for 6 weeks. The smoking cessation rates for 1 year in groups 1 and 2 were higher than that in the control group (9.5%, 15.6%, and 0%, respectively; odd ratio: 7.98, P = .019, n = 109). The Effect of Auricular Acupressure on Sleep Disturbance Among Patients With Leukemia: A Feasibility Study
Auricular acupressure (AA) is widely used in East Asia and Europe to manage patients with sleep disturbance. This feasibility study was performed to demonstrate the potential of AA for sleep disturbance in patients with leukemia. Thirty-two patients with leukemia with poor sleep quality received AA 3 times a day for a total of 4 weeks. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to assess sleep quality at baseline, at a 2-week intervention, and after a 4-week intervention. Compared with baseline scores, PSQI scores and the use of sleep medicine were significantly improved at week 2 and week 4 (P (Source: Holistic Nursing Practice)

We examined the effect of aromatherapy on the cognitive functions and daytime sleepiness of older adults living in a nursing home. The research was a pretest and posttest design, which was conducted without a control group. The sample included 39 elders. A rosemary-lemon oil mixture was smelled by elders in the mornings for a week. After a 1-week washout period, lavender oils were smelled in the evenings for a week. After application of the rosemary-lemon oil mixture, the mean score of participants' daytime sleepiness was lower, but that decline was not statistically meaningful (P> .050). Nonmedical Interventions for Schizophrenia: A Review of Diet, Exercise, and Social Roles
Schizophrenia is a major mental illness with a disease course that is influenced by lifestyle. The risk-benefit ratio for alternative interventions is more favorable than for antipsychotics in long-term treatment. Dietary interventions may target autoimmune features, vitamin or mineral deficiencies, abnormal lipid metabolism, gluten sensitivity, or others. Examples of interventions involving diet, physical activity, or physical processes or social interventions including talk therapy exist in the literature. Notwithstanding, the general utility of these types of interventions remains inconclusive, awaiting long-term random...
