GPX3 supports ovarian cancer tumor progression in vivo and promotes expression of GDF15
CONCLUSIONS: We show for the first time that tumor produced GPX3 is necessary for ovarian cancer growth in vivo and that it regulates expression of GDF15. The immune profile associated with GPX3 expression in serous ovarian tumors suggests that GPX3 may be an alternate marker of ovarian tumors susceptible to immune check-point inhibitors.PMID:38342006 | DOI:10.1016/j.ygyno.2024.02.004 (Source: Gynecologic Oncology)

A comprehensive population-based study of malignant ovarian tumors, including histologic and immunohistochemical review, in children and adolescents 0-19  years old in Sweden between 1970 and 2014
CONCLUSIONS: Ovarian tumors in children and adolescents are rare and distinct from their adult counterparts regarding incidence and frequency. There was a strong concurrence between original and review diagnoses. The greatest diagnostic difficulty was subtyping of epithelial tumors and differentiating between tumors within the SCST group.PMID:38340646 | DOI:10.1016/j.ygyno.2024.01.035 (Source: Gynecologic Oncology)

Survival rates in Hispanic/Latinx subpopulations with cervical cancer associated with disparities in guideline-concordant care
CONCLUSION: Significant differences in survival were identified among our cohort despite the receipt of guideline concordant care, with notably higher survival among Hispanic/Latinx populations.PMID:38340647 | DOI:10.1016/j.ygyno.2024.01.043 (Source: Gynecologic Oncology)

Prognostic value of three-tiered scoring system for lymph-vascular space invasion in endometrial cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: EC patients with focal and substantial LVSI had poorer survival, recurrence, and a higher incidence of lymph node metastasis than patients without LVSI. The substantial LVSI group was associated with even worse prognosis than the focal LVSI group. The three-tiered LVSI scoring system might effectively predict the prognosis of EC and guide clinical decision-making.PROTOCOL REGISTRATION: CRD 42023451793.PMID:38335803 | DOI:10.1016/j.ygyno.2024.01.046 (Source: Gynecologic Oncology)

Identifying safe diagnostic algorithms for sentinel lymph node mapping in high-risk endometrial cancer: The SENTIREC-endo study
CONCLUSION: SLN-mapping is a safe staging procedure in women with high-risk EC if strictly adhering to a surgical algorithm including removal of any PET-positive lymph nodes independent of location and PLD or PLD and PALD in case of failed mapping.PMID:38335900 | DOI:10.1016/j.ygyno.2024.01.049 (Source: Gynecologic Oncology)

A systematic review of ethnic minority participation in randomised controlled trials of systemic therapies for gynecological cancers
CONCLUSIONS: Ethnic minorities formed smaller proportions of RCT cohorts compared to the general population. The majority of sites were located in North America and Europe, with few in other regions, limiting enrollment of South Asian, South-East Asian and African patients in particular. Efforts to recruit more ethnic minority patients should be made in North America and Europe. More sites in underserved regions would promote equitable access to RCTs and ensure findings are generalisable to diverse groups. This review assessed the global population enrolled in contemporary RCTs for novel therapies now routinely given for g...

Trends in ovarian, fallopian tube, and primary peritoneal cancer incidence, mortality, and survival: A 15-year population-based analysis
CONCLUSION: There has been a decrease in the incidence and incidence-based mortality of ovarian, fallopian tube, and primary peritoneal cancer, primarily due to reductions in advanced stage epithelial cancers originating in the ovary, fallopian tube, or peritoneum.PMID:38330833 | DOI:10.1016/j.ygyno.2024.01.034 (Source: Gynecologic Oncology)

Health-related quality of life in patients with newly diagnosed advanced ovarian cancer treated with niraparib vs placebo: Results from the phase 3 randomized PRIMA/ENGOT-OV26/GOG-3012 trial
CONCLUSIONS: Despite some early, largely transient increases in gastrointestinal symptoms, patients with OC treated with niraparib first-line maintenance therapy reported no worsening in overall HRQoL.PMID:38325276 | DOI:10.1016/j.ygyno.2024.01.021 (Source: Gynecologic Oncology)

Variation in telemedicine usage in gynecologic cancer: Are we widening or narrowing disparities?
CONCLUSIONS: In this national cohort study, <30% of patients ever used telemedicine, and significant racial and regional disparities existed in utilization. Telemedicine expansion efforts should include programs to improve equity in access to telemedicine.PMID:38320467 | DOI:10.1016/j.ygyno.2024.01.047 (Source: Gynecologic Oncology)

Rural-urban disparities in psychosocial functioning in epithelial ovarian cancer patients
CONCLUSION: Rural patients reported less improvement in psychological functioning in the year following diagnosis than their urban counterparts. Clinicians should be aware of rurality as a potential risk factor for ongoing distress. Future studies should examine causes of these health disparities and potential long-term inequities and develop interventions to address these issues.PMID:38309031 | DOI:10.1016/j.ygyno.2024.01.024 (Source: Gynecologic Oncology)
