Naodesheng decoction regulating vascular function via G-protein-coupled receptors: network analysis and experimental investigations
Discussion: The study reports that various metabolites of NDS contribute to its vascular tone regulating effects and demonstrates the multi-component and multi-target characteristics of NDS. Among them, metabolites with moderate-to-high binding scores in NDS may play an important role in regulating vascular function. (Source: Frontiers in Pharmacology)

Korean red ginseng extract prevents bone loss in an oral model of glucocorticoid induced osteoporosis in mice
The gut microbiota and barrier function play important roles in bone health. We previously demonstrated that chronic glucocorticoid (GC)-induced bone loss in mice is associated with significant shifts in gut microbiota composition and impaired gut barrier function. Korean Red Ginseng (KRG, Panax Ginseng Meyer, Araliaceae) extract has been shown to prevent glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis (GIO) in a subcutaneous pellet model in mice, but its effect on gut microbiota and barrier function in this context is not known. The overall goal of this study was to test the effect of KRG extract in a clinically relevant, oral model ...

Unlocking the potential of fondaparinux: guideline for optimal usage and clinical suggestions (2023)
Conclusion: The purpose of this guideline is to provide all healthcare providers with high-quality recommendations for the clinical use of fondaparinux and to improve the rational use of the drug in clinical practice. Currently, there is a lack of a dedicated antidote for the management of fondaparinux. The clinical investigation of activated prothrombin complex concentrate (APCC) or recombinant activated factor VII (rFⅦa) as potential reversal agents is still pending. This critical gap necessitates heightened scrutiny and research emphasis, potentially constituting a novel avenue for future inquiries into fondaparinux s...

Pharmacological treatments and medication-related problems in nursing homes in Catalonia: a multidisciplinary approach
Conclusion: This study demonstrates a high prevalence of health-related problems and several prescribed drugs in nursing homes in Catalonia. Many recommendations were made, confirming the increased proportion of polypharmacy, MRPs, and the need for standardized interventions. A multidisciplinary team approach, including general practitioners, geriatric assessments, a clinical pharmacist, and a clinical pharmacologist, should address this problem. Antibacterial activity of cinnamon essential oil and its main component of cinnamaldehyde and the underlying mechanism
Conclusion: Our results indicated that low-dose CIEO and CID treatment could activate the p38 signaling pathway in C. elegans, thereby regulating antimicrobial peptides, and achieving antimicrobial effects. Meanwhile, high doses of CIEO and CID might directly participate in the internal antimicrobial processes of C. elegans. Our study provides research basis for the antibacterial properties of CIEO and CID both in vivo and in vitro. (Source: Frontiers in Pharmacology)

Sesquiterpene lactones as emerging biomolecules to cease cancer by targeting apoptosis
Apoptosis is a programmed cell death comprising two signaling cascades including the intrinsic and extrinsic pathways. This process has been shown to be involved in the therapy response of different cancer types, making it an effective target for treating cancer. Cancer has been considered a challenging issue in global health. Cancer cells possess six biological characteristics during their developmental process known as cancer hallmarks. Hallmarks of cancer include continuous growth signals, unlimited proliferation, resistance to proliferation inhibitors, apoptosis escaping, active angiogenesis, and metastasis. Sesquiterp...

Chinese bayberry (Myrica rubra Sieb. et Zucc.) leaves proanthocyanidins inhibit intestinal glucose transport in human Caco-2 cells
Conclusion: These results suggested that BLPs inhibited intestinal glucose transport via inhibiting the expression of glucose transporters. It indicated that BLPs could be potentially used as a functional food in the diet to modulate postprandial hyperglycemia. (Source: Frontiers in Pharmacology)

Targeting hexokinase 2 for oral cancer therapy: structure-based design and validation of lead compounds
The pursuit of small molecule inhibitors targeting hexokinase 2 (HK2) has significantly captivated the field of cancer drug discovery. Nevertheless, the creation of selective inhibitors aimed at specific isoforms of hexokinase (HK) remains a formidable challenge. Here, we present a multiple-pharmacophore modeling approach for designing ligands against HK2 with a marked anti-proliferative effect on FaDu and Cal27 oral cancer cell lines. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations showed that the prototype ligand exhibited a higher affinity towards HK2. Complementing this, we put forth a sustainable synthetic pathway: an environment...

Natural products reverse cancer multidrug resistance
Cancer stands as a prominent global cause of death. One of the key reasons why clinical tumor chemotherapy fails is multidrug resistance (MDR). In recent decades, accumulated studies have shown how Natural Product-Derived Compounds can reverse tumor MDR. Discovering novel potential modulators to reduce tumor MDR by Natural Product-Derived Compounds has become a popular research area across the globe. Numerous studies mainly focus on natural products including flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids, polyphenols and coumarins for their MDR modulatory activity. Natural products reverse MDR by regulating signaling pathways or the r...
