Operating Room Noise and Team Communication during Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery: A Multicenter Study
This study was completed across three surgical institutions. Objective noise measurements were recorded with SoundMeter X. A communication questionnaire was delivered to OR team members following each case. Four hundred and twenty-three noise measurements were recorded during facelift/neck, eye/brow, rhinoplasty, and fat transfer/lip surgeries. The mean and maximum noise levels were 66.1 dB (dB) and 87.6 dB, respectively. Measurements during cases with general anesthetic (221/423, 52.2%) had higher noise measurements (70.3 dB) compared with those with sedation (202/423, 47.8%) (69.7 dB) (p = 0.04). The OR was l...

The Effect of Locally Delivered Apocynin on Fat Graft Survival in an Experimental Rat Animal Model
Facial Plast Surg DOI: 10.1055/a-1738-1194We aimed to investigate the efficacy of locally delivered apocynin on fat graft survival in an experimental autologous fat grafting (AFG) model created in rats. Twenty-one Wistar albino male rats were included in this study. The 0.647 g mean weight grafts were harvested from the inguinal region and transferred to the nape of every rat. The subjects were randomly separated into three groups. Saline, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), and apocynin, a dose of 20 mg/kg, solutions were applied once a day for 2 weeks. After 3 months, the rats were sacrificed. The evaluation of physical measu...

The role of Erbium-Glass Laser in skin resurfacing Glass Laser in Skin Resurfacing
Facial Plast Surg DOI: 10.1055/a-1733-2768Following our survey, we can appreciate that a variety of laser platforms exist to rejuvenate the skin by resurfacing the outer layer of the skin as well as heating the lower layers of the dermis. Based on reliable clinical effectiveness and a limited side effect profile, we can confirm that nonablative fractionated technologies greatly improve the appearance of lentigines, rhytids; eliminate sun damage, attenuate scarring due to acne and other causes; and treat hyperpigmentation. The Fraxel (Solta Medical) laser system delivers pulses across a wide range of density and energy leve...
