Traumatic injuries in primary dentition and their immediate and long-term consequences: a 10-year retrospective study from the State University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
ConclusionsMost traumatic injuries occur in young children, in their home environment. Consequences for the primary teeth were more frequent compared to the permanent successor tooth. Traumatized primary teeth involving periodontal tissue have more chances to result in sequelae to their successor teeth. (Source: European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry)

Salivary parameters and their correlation with neutrophil counts in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia
ConclusionSalivary parameters showed derangements over the phases of chemotherapy, with maximum decrease at the end of induction phase. The positive correlations of salivary parameters with ANC of the subjects may be considered indicative of a concomitant immunological compromise in these children. Minimal intervention dentistry for managing carious lesions into dentine in primary teeth: an umbrella review
ConclusionMinimal Intervention Dentistry techniques, namely 38% SDF, HT, selective removal of carious tissue, and ART for single surface cavity, appear to be effective in arresting the progress of dentinal caries in primary teeth when compared to no treatment, or conventional restorations. There is clear need to increase the emphasis on considering these techniques for managing carious primary teeth as a mainstream option rather than a compromise option in circumstances where the conventional approach is not possible due to cooperation or cost. Comparison of effectiveness of oral hygiene instruction methods in improving plaque scores among 8 –9-year children: a randomized controlled trial
ConclusionsRegardless of the method used, a gradient of effectiveness was observed in improving plaque scores. Verbal instruction supplemented by teaching model was the most effective. Effectiveness was influenced by monthly income, mother ’s and father’s educational levels and plaque index before OHI. (Source: European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry)

Prevalence of anterior open bite in children and adolescents: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionThe overall prevalence of anterior open bite was 16.52% in children and adolescents aged 2 –16 years. Giving the limitations of a prevalence meta-analysis, the extrapolation of the results should be cautious.Registration numberCRD42020183162, 10 July 2020. A case –controlled investigation of risk factors associated with molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH) in 8–12 year-old children living in Chandigarh, India
ConclusionsPre and post-natal risk factors showed a moderate to high association for occurrence of MIH although social and nutritional factors had a lesser association. (Source: European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry)

Effects of antibiotics on the developing enamel in neonatal mice
ConclusionThe reduced MD and vol% in the molars and incisors are likely to have been caused by the antibiotics given during tooth development. The presented analysis of teeth in neonatal mice with micro-CT could be a valid model for further research on dental developmental defects. (Source: European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry)

Evaluating pain, fear, anxiety or stress/distress using children ’s drawings in paediatric dentistry: a scoping review
ConclusionsThe drawings can be considered a useful tool in identifying children ’s pain, fear, anxiety or stress/distress and perceptions about the dentist and/or dental treatment. Future studies with standardized analysis of the drawings are recommended. Codehttps://doi.org/10.17605/OSF.IO/U5BJH. “Retrospectively registered”. (Source: European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry)

Worldwide trends on molar incisor and deciduous molar hypomineralisation research: a bibliometric analysis over a 19-year period
ConclusionsThis bibliometric review provided a comprehensive overview of research in MIH and DMH/HSPM over the past 19  years. Within the limitations of the present study, the following conclusions can be drawn: global trends point to an increasing peak of scientific publication, especially in the last decade, while there is a shortage of clinical studies on treatments, mainly evaluating tooth extractions. Finally the multifactorial nature should be further explored, considering environmental and systemic factors together. (Source: European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry)

Best clinical practice guidance for clinicians dealing with children presenting with molar-incisor-hypomineralisation (MIH): an updated European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry policy document
ConclusionsMIH has been studied more extensively in the last decade. Its aetiology follows the multifactorial model, involving systemic medical and genetic factors. Further focused laboratory research and prospective clinical studies are needed to elucidate any additional factors and refine the model. Successful preventive and treatment options have been studied and established. The appropriate choice depends on the severity of the defects and the age of the patient. EAPD encourages the use of all available treatment options, whilst in severe cases, scheduled extractions should be considered. (Source: European Archives of ...
