Does the addition of chlorhexidine to glass ionomer cements influence its antimicrobial effect and survival rate? A systematic review
ConclusionsBased on a very low level of certainty, the evidence suggests that the incorporation of CHX in GIC might improve the antimicrobial effects for a short time, in addition to having little influence on the survival of the restoration. (Source: European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry)

Effect of active and passive distraction techniques while administering local anaesthesia on the dental anxiety, behaviour and pain levels of children: a randomised controlled trial
ConclusionUse of active stress ball distraction or passive audio-visual eyeglasses during local anaesthesia administration decreased dental anxiety but did not result in a significant improvement in the dental anxiety, behaviour and pain levels when compared to basic behaviour guidance without distraction.Clinical trial registrationThe clinical trial was registered at Clinical Trials Registry –India (CTRI Reg no: CTRI/2019/04/018768, Dated 24 April 2019). Behaviour management problems in Finnish children with operated congenital heart disease: a practice-based study
ConclusionDental caries remains a main factor associated with BMP in the CHD population. Need for oral conscious sedation and DGA were rather common. To maintain a good oral health and to avoid development of BMP, CHD children benefit from focus in health promotion and preventive care. (Source: European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry)

Sleep-disordered breathing in children and adolescents seeking paediatric dental care in Dubai, UAE
ConclusionsThis study suggested that approximately 12% of the sample studied were potentially at risk of SDB. Tonsils' size, Body-Mass Index, Class-II molar relationship, and posterior crossbite/s were positively associated with the risk of SDB. Therefore, the importance of investigating the risk for sleep-disordered breathing should not be disregarded. (Source: European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry)

Radiographic differences observed following apexification vs revascularization in necrotic immature molars and incisors: a follow-up study of 18 teeth
ConclusionApexification with an MTA apical plug and pulp regeneration are reliable treatments for non-vital immature teeth. The radiographic outcomes are comparable between the immature teeth subjected to MTA apexification versus those subjected to revascularization. The results of the present study indicate a greater increase in root length and width with regenerative endodontic treatment. (Source: European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry)

Oral health-related quality of life in children and adolescents with cerebral palsy: paired cross-sectional study
ConclusionChildren and adolescents with CP suffered a greater negative impact on OHRQoL than individuals without CP. Difficulty in opening the mouth and the presence of GER had a negative effect on the quality of life of individuals with CP, while dental caries had a negative impact on the OHRQoL of children and adolescents of both groups. Clinical, individual and environmental factors related to children ’s health-related quality of life following treatment under general anaesthetic for dental caries: a path analysis
ConclusionsTreatment type, via number of extractions, may significantly impact on child OHRQoL and HRQoL following treatment under GA. However, to identify any other factors, that might affect these key outcomes, further enquiry is warranted with a bigger sample. (Source: European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry)

Childhood oral lichen planus: a case series with review of literature
ConclusionOLP is unusual in children and is often left untreated due to low awareness among the patients. Can be often misdiagnosed and should be considered in differential diagnosis of any white lesion of oral cavity. Any such lesions must be correctly diagnosed in time to institute appropriate management and follow-up. (Source: European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry)

Understanding the building blocks of the paediatric dentistry curriculum for undergraduate students in an Australian University
ConclusionThis study showed that students reported low levels of confidence in pulp therapies and trauma management in children as compared to other aspects of paediatric dentistry. Students indicated the need for more preclinical and clinical training sessions, as well as more opportunities to perform a wider variety of treatments on paediatric patients. Fracture strength of preformed zirconia crown and new custom-made zirconia crown for the restoration of deciduous molars: in vitro study
ConclusionConsidering the limitations of the present in vitro study, further in vitro and in vivo studies are required to support the use of Zirkid© in primary molar teeth restorations and to assess others mechanical properties. (Source: European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry)

Behaviour of 3 –11-year-old children during dental treatment requiring multiple visits: a retrospective study
ConclusionsMost 3 –11 yo patients exhibited positive behaviour during four consecutive dental treatments, with different behaviour guidance techniques. Negative behaviour was more frequent among 3–6 yo children, where sedation was often required to achieve cooperation, and 4.5% could benefit from general anesthes ia. Label-free quantitative proteomics reveals molecular correlates of altered biomechanical properties in molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH): an in vitro study
ConclusionWe propose that altered biomechanical properties of the enamel in MIH samples arise due to (i) down-regulation of proteins contributing to collagen biosynthesis and fibril formation; (ii) an overall imbalance in required levels of proteases (KLK4 and MMP-20) and anti-proteases (anti-thrombin-III which inhibits KLK-4), essential for optimal mineralization; (iii) very low levels of alpha-2-macroglobulin with important consequences in enamel mineralization and amelogenesis; and (iv) increased albumin in MIH, preventing proper growth of hydroxyapatite crystals. Increased inflammatory component was also seen in MIH; h...
