Worldwide research trends on the use of chemical –mechanical caries removal products over the years: a critical review
ConclusionIn vitro and clinical studies with CMCR products have been increasing, mostly carried out in developing countries, evaluating Carisolv ™ and Papacarie Duo Gel™. Clinical studies tend to evaluate the time spent and pain compared to drills for removing caries in primary teeth, posteriorly restored with GIC. CMCR clinical application reduces anxiety, pain, and need for anesthesia, despite increase treatments’ time. (Source: European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry)

Clinical effectiveness of restorative materials for the restoration of carious primary teeth without pulp therapy: a systematic review
ConclusionsWithin the limitations of this systematic review, namely, the heterogeneity and the overall high risk of bias among included studies, clear recommendations based on solid evidence for the best restorative approach in primary teeth cannot be drawn. There is a need for future thoroughly implemented RCTs evaluating restorations in primary teeth to close this knowledge gap. (Source: European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry)

Fissure sealing and caries development in Norwegian children
ConclusionFew children had received fissure sealing. Although sealing was used as a caries preventive method in children who had experienced caries in primary teeth, these children continued developing caries in their permanent teeth. (Source: European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry)

Held still or pressured to receive dental treatment: self-reported histories of children and adolescents treated by non-specialist dentists in Hordaland, Norway
ConclusionTo feel pressured to receive dental treatment and to be held still against one ’s will overlap with the concepts of psychological and physical restraint. Patients with a self-reported history of restraint recorded significant differences in DFA, intra-oral injection fear, and trust in dentists compared to those who did not report restraint. Future studies should explore the role that restraint may play in relation to a patient’s DFA, intra-oral injection fear, and trust in dentists. (Source: European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry)

Comparative real-time PCR quantification of cytomegalovirus in severe early childhood caries and caries-free children
ConclusionResults of this study suggest a relationship between the presence of CMV in the oral cavity and S-ECC. We can design clinical trials to confirm these results and improve children's dental care. (Source: European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry)

Outcome of vital pulp therapy in deeply carious molars affected with molar incisor hypomineralisation (MIH) defects: a randomized clinical trial
ConclusionsVPT is a valid treatment option in deeply carious young permanent first molars affected with MIH over 24  months. IPT had a higher clinical and radiographic success rate (96%) than partial or cervical pulpotomy (total 86%), but the difference was not statistically significant. Future randomized clinical trials on VPT for teeth affected with MIH are recommended with larger sample size and longer follow -up. (Source: European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry)

Patient-reported outcome measures for children and adolescents having dental bleaching in the UK
ConclusionThis PROM supports the use of dental bleaching in children and young people when treating dental disease that causes discolouration. Bleaching not only improved the appearance of teeth, but also patients ’ self-confidence. Sensitivity is a common side effect and clinicians should discuss this common risk and its management with patients and their families. (Source: European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry)

Eruption pattern of the maxillary canines: features indicating treatment needs as seen in PTG at the late mixed stage —Part II
ConclusionAn association with treatment needs was found especially in the case of overlapping and a large inclination angle of the maxillary canine a couple of years before eruption into the oral cavity. These features can be early signs and indications for instant or later treatment of a maxillary canine and underline the importance of monitoring space conditions and erupting canines.
