Periodontal and Implant Radiology
Dental radiography can be used to detect alveolar bone levels around periodontal and peri-implant structures. Periodontal radiographic images can assess alveolar bone height, periodontal ligament, furcation involvement, and evidence of bone destruction. Peri-implant radiographic images can assess the alveolar bone height in relation to the implant structure. As an adjunct to patient care, radiography can aid in the diagnosis of non-health. Radiology in Endodontics
Endodontics requires radiographic imaging for diagnosis, treatment planning, therapy, and follow-up. Dental radiography allows for the identification of pathologic changes in the periradicular tissues that cannot be visualized by clinical inspection. For the precise execution of endodontic therapy, regular radiographic verification of individual treatment steps is necessary. As a review for clinicians, normal and pathologic findings relevant to Endodontics are presented. Key radiographic imaging techniques, such as the paralleling and bisecting techniques, as well as horizontal and vertical eccentric radiographs, are discu...

Physiologic and Pathologic Calcifications of Head and Neck Significant to the Dentist
This article aims to help the practitioner identify structures found in routine three-dimensional imaging studies of the head and neck region and understand their significance and possible need for intervention. The prevalence of advanced imaging in dental practice, especially cone beam computed tomography, highlights the need to recognize and identify various high-density structures that are, in fact, soft tissue calcifications or alterations of normal bony anatomy. The wide range of these findings includes both benign and malignant pathologic entities as well as age-related calcifications and remodeling of normal anatomi...

Radiographic Evaluation of Prosthodontic Patients
This article focuses on radiographic imaging with regard to planning, treating, and maintaining partially and completely edentulous prosthodontic patients with dental implants. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is the preferred imaging method for pretreatment dental implant treatment planning. Radiographic guides containing radiopaque materials and/or fiducial markers transfer both the proposed prosthesis design and desired implant location for appropriate radiographic evaluation. The three-dimensional CBCT analysis provides information on the adjacent relevant anatomy, bone volume of the edentulous sites, and restorati...

Radiographic Diagnosis in the Pediatric Dental Patient
This article emphasizes the selection criteria for radiographic acquisition in children due to the greater sensitivity of children for radiation compared with adults. Diagnosis of common pediatric dental conditions, including dental caries, periodontitis, dental anomalies, cysts, tumors, and traumatic dental conditions, are discussed with relevant clinical scenarios. Radiographic Interpretation in Oral Medicine and Hospital Dental Practice
This article reviews imaging that may be used in practice, particularly as relevant for facial pain, bone conditions, and salivary gland disease. It reviews imaging that may be considered in a hospital setting for assessment of admitted patients, patient evaluation before surgical procedures, and provision of dentistry in a hospital setting for patients who cannot submit to treatment in an outpatient setting. The Digital Clone
The purpose of this article is to synthesize different technologies that are available for the creation of a virtual patient, “the digital clone” because the data can be used for diagnosis as well as treatment planning. The role of facial scans, 3-dimensional intraoral scans as well as the cone beam computed tomography in the creation of a digital clone is discussed in detail. A step-by-step guide is created for the re ader for integration of the intraoral scan data with the cone beam computed tomography Dicom data to create a digital clone. Oral and Maxillofacial Radiographic Data: A Multidisciplinary Diagnostic, Presurgical, and Virtual Tool for the Twenty-First Century
Until recently, radiographic data have primarily been used as a diagnostic tool, but such use only skims the surface of the data ’s full potential. While imaging still has its diagnostic value, clinical applications of radiographic data have evolved, especially since the advent of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Combined with other forms of imaging, like intraoral scanners and Three-dimensional (3D) facial photographs , CBCT data have become a formidable driver in the creation of surgical guides, presurgical templates, tools for mock surgeries, and creation of the “virtual patient.” (Source: Dental Clinics of North America)

Radiographic Diagnosis of Systemic Diseases Manifested in Jaws
Radiographic changes of the oral and maxillofacial hard tissues can be an indication of an underlying systemic disease. In this article, the range of individual disease entities that have both systemic and dental manifestations are reviewed. Images for many conditions are provided to illustrate the radiographic changes. A summary of the most common jaw affected, radiographic and pathognomonic findings, and management aspects is listed in a table format within this article for quick reference.
