Epidemiological and Treatment Trends for Acute Ischemic Stroke Preceding and during the COVID-19 Pandemic
Conclusions: In the largest SES analysis of AIS patients during the COVID-19 era, we found that several SES factors, including race and income, did not seem to significantly impact utilization of MT for the treatment of AIS or the severity of the stroke at presentation.Cerebrovasc Dis (Source: Cerebrovascular Diseases)

The Stroke Unit Story: Where Have We Been and Where Are We Going?
Background: The concept of stroke unit care has been discussed for over 50 years, but it is only in the last 25 years that clear evidence of its effectiveness has emerged to inform these discussions.Summary: This review outlines the history of the concept of stroke units to improve recovery after stroke and their evaluation in clinical trials. It describes the first systematic review of stroke unit trials published in 1993, the establishment of a collaborative research group (the Stroke Unit Trialists ’ Collaboration), the subsequent analyses and updates of the evidence base, and the efforts to implement stroke unit care...

Rich-Club Analysis of the Structural Brain Network in Cases with Cerebral Small Vessel Disease and Depression Symptoms
Conclusions: Our study revealed that SVD patients with depressive symptoms have disrupted white matter networks that characteristically have reduced network efficiency compared to the networks in other SVD patients. Disrupted information interactions among the regions of nonrich-club and rich-club in SVD cases are related to the severity of depression. Our data suggest that DTI may be utilized as an appropriate biomarker for the diagnosis of depression in comorbid SVD patients.Cerebrovasc Dis (Source: Cerebrovascular Diseases)

Dilated Optic Nerve Sheath Diameter Predicts Poor Outcome in Acute Spontaneous Intracerebral Hemorrhage
Conclusions: The dilated ONSD measured on initial CT indicated elevated intracranial pressure and poor outcome, so appropriate intervention should be taken in time.Cerebrovasc Dis (Source: Cerebrovascular Diseases)

Stroke in Patients with Left Ventricular Assist Devices
Background: Left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) are artificial pumps used in end-stage heart failure to support the circulatory system. These cardiac assist devices work in parallel to the heart, diverting blood from the left ventricle through an outflow graft and into the ascending aorta. LVADs have allowed patients with end-stage heart failure to live longer and with improved quality of life compared to best medical therapy alone. However, they are associated with significant risks related to both thrombosis and bleeding in this medically complex patient population. As LVADs continue to be used more widely, stroke ne...

Five-Year Outcomes of Medical Management Alone for Adult Patients with Ischemic Moyamoya Disease without Cerebral Misery Perfusion
Conclusion: In adult patients receiving medical management alone for ischemic MMD without cerebral misery perfusion, the incidence of further ischemic events was 6% per 5 years and did not change between the initial 2 years after the last is chemic event and the subsequent 3 years. In patients without further ischemic events, CBF and cognitive function had not deteriorated at 5 years after the last ischemic event.Cerebrovasc Dis (Source: Cerebrovascular Diseases)

Effects of Smoking on Short-Term and Long-Term Mortality after Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
Conclusions: Our results indicated that in patients with aSAH, current smoking or former smoking was not associated with all-cause mortality up to 7-year follow-up.Cerebrovasc Dis (Source: Cerebrovascular Diseases)

Dose-Dependent Association of Inflammatory Cytokines with Carotid Atherosclerosis in Transient Ischaemic Attack: Implications for Clinical Trials
Conclusion: Symptomatic carotid atherosclerosis was associated with elevated cytokines in TIA patients after controlling for other sources of inflammation. High-sensitivity CRP was associated with recurrent ischaemic stroke at 90 days. These findings implicate acute plaque inflammation in the pathogenesis of cerebral thromboembolism and support a rationale for randomized trials of anti-inflammatory therapy for stroke patients, who were excluded from coronary trials.Cerebrovasc Dis (Source: Cerebrovascular Diseases)

Extensive Cerebral Venous Thrombosis Secondary to Recreational Nitrous Oxide Abuse
We present a 16-year-old girl with no medical history who presented to the emergency department for confusion, hallucinations, weakness, and headaches. Imaging revealed extensive cerebral thrombosis. She had no prior history of venous or arterial thrombosis. Hypercoagulability workup demonstrated an elevated homocysteine level. She was treated with effective anticoagulation and vitamin B12 folate supplementation. To our knowledge, there are a very few cases in the medical literature of cerebral venous thrombosis following the use of nitrous oxide. The pathophysiology of the disorder appears to be linked to the metabolism o...

LOXL2 Inhibitor Attenuates Angiotensin II-Induced Atrial Fibrosis and Vulnerability to Atrial Fibrillation through Inhibition of Transforming Growth Factor Beta-1 Smad2/3 Pathway
Conclusions: LOXL2 is a target of AF, and its inhibitor prevents atrial fibrosis and attenuated enhanced vulnerability to AF potentially through the TGF- β/Smad pathway.Cerebrovasc Dis (Source: Cerebrovascular Diseases)

The Association between Baseline and 3-Month Albuminuria and 1-Year Prognosis of Ischemic Stroke
