Characteristics of ocular hypertension and uveitic glaucoma amongst patients with noninfectious uveitis: a retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: A quarter of patients with NIU in this study developed ocular hypertension or uveitic glaucoma. Approximately half of the patients with ocular hypertension or uveitic glaucoma were deemed to be corticosteroid responders. Baseline and last visual acuity outcomes are better amongst ocular hypertension patients compared with those with uveitic glaucoma. Poor baseline visual acuity and panuveitis are predictors of worse vision at last follow-up. Additionally, diagnosis of uveitic glaucoma was a significant predictor of requirement for glaucoma surgery.PMID:38431271 | DOI:10.1016/j.jcjo.2024.02.003 (Source: Canadian...

Combined photodynamic therapy and transpupillary thermotherapy for small choroidal melanoma
CONCLUSION: Combined PDT and TTT achieved 81% tumour control in this study while preserving visual acuity. However, higher rates of local recurrence compared with brachytherapy warrant close follow-up to identify recurrences early.PMID:38431268 | DOI:10.1016/j.jcjo.2024.02.001 (Source: Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology)

Association of pre-residency publications with research productivity in residency, fellowship, and academic career choice among Canadian ophthalmologists
CONCLUSION: Pre-residency research output is a significant predictor of research productivity during residency and subsequent career choices, suggesting that pre-residency publishing reflects a propensity toward an academic trajectory. Residency publication count moderates this association, underscoring the role of the residency program environment in fostering research productivity. Addressing barriers such as mentorship, funding, and curriculum may be key to incentivizing trainees to pursue academic medicine.PMID:38431270 | DOI:10.1016/j.jcjo.2024.02.004 (Source: Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology)

Advancement of female representation within ophthalmology in Canada: an assessment of representation at the Canadian Ophthalmology Society annual meeting
CONCLUSIONS: While underrepresented, females continue to trend upward in participation at COS meetings. Continuous analysis of females participating in academic positions such as at COS meetings will aid in limiting gender disparities in ophthalmology.PMID:38428829 | DOI:10.1016/j.jcjo.2024.02.002 (Source: Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology)
