Personalized treatment for patients with lacrimal sac squamous cell carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: Orbital bone erosion and lymph node metastasis are poor prognostic factors in LSSCC. Chemoradiotherapy is vital and effective. Although surgery did not improve survival, multidisciplinary treatment, including surgery, is recommended for LSSCC.PMID:38580215 | DOI:10.1016/j.jcjo.2024.03.010 (Source: Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology)

Observational cohort study of 100 patients presenting with functional visual loss: clinical characteristics and comparison with other functional neurologic disorders
CONCLUSIONS: Our population of functional visual loss subjects shares many similarities with the majority of patients with other functional neurologic disorders. They are generally young and female and have a greater than expected rate of psychiatric, medical, and coexisting ocular conditions. We found increased rates of precipitating stressors, clinical depression, and organic eye problems in subjects with functional visual loss.PMID:38580217 | DOI:10.1016/j.jcjo.2024.02.018 (Source: Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology)

Validation of preloaded DMEK donor tissues: a laboratory-based study on endothelial cell viability and comparison of two F-mark inks
CONCLUSION: Preloaded DMEK donor tissues resulted in an acceptable ECL range after 1 and 5 days of storage and were deemed suitable for transplantation. Both F-mark inks are acceptable for prestamping preloaded DMEK tissues prior to surgical transplantation with comparable ECL and intensities.PMID:38513716 | DOI:10.1016/j.jcjo.2024.02.012 (Source: Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology)

T1D and T2D predispose to higher Nd:YAG capsulotomy rates following cataract surgery: analysis of 53,471 consecutive cases
CONCLUSION: In our large cohort study, patients with T1D and T2D were predisposed to high risk for Nd:YAG capsulotomy following cataract surgery. This study may be beneficial and raise awareness regarding the assessment of posterior capsular opacification development in pseudophakic diabetic patients, particularly those with T1D. The significance of ophthalmology screening for diabetes individuals is further supported by this issue.PMID:38513717 | DOI:10.1016/j.jcjo.2024.02.014 (Source: Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology)
