Metabolic control analysis of the transsulfuration pathway and the compensatory role of the cysteine transport in Trypanosoma cruzi
Biosystems. 2023 Oct 26;234:105066. doi: 10.1016/j.biosystems.2023.105066. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTrypanosoma cruzi is the causal agent of American Trypanosomiasis or Chagas Disease in humans. The current drugs for its treatment benznidazole and nifurtimox have inconveniences of toxicity and efficacy; therefore, the search for new therapies continues. Validation through genetic strategies of new drug targets against the parasite metabolism have identified numerous essential genes. Target validation can be further narrowed by applying Metabolic Control Analysis (MCA) to determine the flux control coefficients of the ...

Code biology and aesthetics
Biosystems. 2023 Oct 23;234:105065. doi: 10.1016/j.biosystems.2023.105065. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis paper lays the foundations for an investigation of aesthetics in the light of the theories proposed in the field of Code Biology. Starting from the research objectives that aesthetics has set since its origins, a comparison is made with those aesthetic theories that have been most concerned with the sensory approach to the environment, with the attempt to unite human sciences and the main biological discoveries. Thanks to the scientifically grounded insights offered by Code Biology, we will first outline the field ...

Turing and von neumann machines: Completing the new mechanism
Biosystems. 2023 Oct 17:105046. doi: 10.1016/j.biosystems.2023.105046. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTuring (1937) introduces a model of code that is followed by other pioneers of computing machines (such as Flowers 1983, Eckert, Mauchly, Brainerd 1945 and others). One of them is John von Neumann, who defines the concept of optimal code in the context of the conception of EDVAC (von Neumann 1945). He later uses it to build on in his theoretical considerations of the universal constructor (von Neumann 1966). Von Neumann (1963) further presents one of the first neural network models, in relation to the work of McCulloch and ...

Aging and group selection: New arguments in favor of partially directed evolution
In this study, theories of aging and its mechanisms under various environmental conditions were analyzed. The analysis of published data suggested that aging is a controlled process. It is known that many mathematical algorithms utilize an analogy of aging. However, this is possible only when a "target set" is known in advance. Various forms of selection in relation to aging were analyzed both collectively and separately. The general conclusion is that aging is one of the mechanisms of directed evolution. A model was constructed, which shows how aging is integrated into partially directed evolution.PMID:37858738 | DOI:10.1...
