Radiomics in Addition to Computed Tomography-Based Body Composition Nomogram May Improve the Prediction of Postoperative Complications in Gastric Cancer Patients
Conclusions: The combined model consisting of NRS2002 score, sarcopenia, blood loss, and a radiomics signature holds potential application value for the individualized prediction of postoperative complications in gastric cancer patients. (Source: Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism)

Adherence to Treatment Recommendations in Chronic Disease: What Is (Im)Possible? Expert Conclusions from the 30th ECOG Workshop 2021
Obesity is a chronic disease, in which treatment outcomes are highly dependent on patient and family adherence to behavioural recommendations. The role of healthy eating, physical activity, medication adherence as well as adherence to pre- and post-bariatric surgery protocols are of utmost importance for long-term treatment outcomes. Even the best interventions are not likely to reach their maximum benefit without significant levels of adherence on the part of the individual and family. Traditionally, the annual meeting of the European Childhood Obesity Group (ECOG) includes an expert workshop addressing one specific topic...

Evaluation of skeletal muscle mass in patients with chronic liver disease shows different results based on bioelectric impedance analysis and computed tomography
Aim: We aimed to evaluate the difference between computed tomography (CT) and bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) -based assessment of sarcopenia in patients with chronic liver disease (CLD). Methods: We enrolled a total of 257 patients who was diagnosed with sarcopenia by CT and BIA based on the Japan Society of Hepatology. To evaluate whether or not the different methods influence the diagnosis of sarcopenia for the patients with CLD, we assessed the number and characteristics of mismatch between the low SMI using BIA and CT. We also compared with the overall survival (OS) in patients with sarcopenia and non-sarcope...

Remote treatment successfully delivers a usual-care weight loss and lifestyle intervention in adults with morbid obesity
We report retrospective data of 234 patients who either belonged to a cohort affected by the transition of treatment delivery (N=117, mean age = 44.2 years; BMI = 47.7 kg/m ²) or to an individually matched control group treated prior to the pandemic (N=117, 44.4 years; 47.3 kg/m²). Weight loss, drop-outs, and attendance were compared between both groups and between remote and regular treatment periods. Results: Weight loss and the number of drop-outs did not differ b etween the two groups and between treatment periods. However, attendance at remotely offered meetings was lower in the pandemic group (72.5%) when compared ...

Risk scores for metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease in pediatric obesity
Conclusion: NAFLD-LFS and the model by Cao et al. were well suited to predict MAFLD in youth with severe obesity. In pubertal children, GSG-Index and NAFLD-LFS performed best in girls and boys, respectively. (Source: Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism)

Effect of central venous nutrition infusion, intravenous fat emulsion, and therapeutic agents on the particle size of fat emulsion for simultaneous administration of three drugs
Conclusions: Some therapeutic agents may contribute to fat particle aggregation. Therefore, these therapeutic agents should not be concurrently administered with fat emulsions. (Source: Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism)

Neck circumference predicts the occurrence and remission of metabolic associated fatty liver disease: A longitudinal study of community-dwelling population
This study included 1549 community participants and was conducted from 2013 to 2016. MAFLD was diagnosed using the International Expert Consensus (2020) criteria. All participants underwent NC measurement and biochemical measurements. Elevated NC was defined as NC ≥38.5 cm in men and NC ≥34.5 cm in women. Results: A total of 1549 subjects (638 men and 911 women), with an average age of 59.6 ± 7.3 years, were included. During a mean follow-up of 2.1 years, MAFLD occurred in 146 of the 870 participants without baseline MAFLD and was resolved in 225 of the 679 participants with baseline MAFLD. After adjusting for confoun...

Cinnamon Infusion Reduces Satiety and Increases Energy Intake: A Randomized Crossover Trial
Conclusions: Although it did not affect energy metabolism, consuming a single dose of cinnamon infusion promoted less feeling of satiety and increased energy intake in the first meal after treatment. The study protocol was registered at the Brazilian Clinical Trials Registry Platform (RBR-5ftg3z). (Source: Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism)
