3D printing in plastic surgery, an accessible tool: Technical note around a case of otopoiesis assisted by 3D model
Ann Chir Plast Esthet. 2023 Jul 8:S0294-1260(23)00070-5. doi: 10.1016/j.anplas.2023.06.009. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACT3D printing has been used in the medical field since the beginning of the 21st century. Over the years, it has been democratized and has become an accessible tool at almost no cost, provided that a 3D printer is available. The surgeon can thus easily integrate it into his practice and techniques in the operating room, provided that he learns to use 3D image processing software. In order to illustrate the whole process, from the genesis and processing of the 3D image to its application in the operating r...

Latissimus dorsi seroma prevention with running quilting suture using barbed suture
Ann Chir Plast Esthet. 2023 Jul 8:S0294-1260(23)00072-9. doi: 10.1016/j.anplas.2023.06.011. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDorsal seroma is a common complication of autologous latissimus dorsi flap (ALDF) in breast reconstruction, and has limited the use of this technique, despite its aesthetic success. It is important to find a right technique to limit the incidence of seroma formation after ALDF. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness and tolerance of a dorsal quilting technique called "running quilting" using barbed resorbable suture in seroma prevention. Three hundred patients who underwent ALDF breast ...

Reconstruction of penile skin loss by superficial circumflex iliac perforator (SCIP) pedicled flap after Fournier's gangrene
CONCLUSION: The SCIP pedicled flap seems us to be a safe technique for penile skin reconstruction and a good alternative to the usual skin grafts, especially regarding the lower risk of contracture, and low donor-site morbidity.PMID:37429802 | DOI:10.1016/j.anplas.2023.06.012 (Source: Annales de Chirurgie Plastique et Esthetique)

Surgical management of giant skin tumor  - A case report
CONCLUSION: Similarly to BCC and SCC, the first-line treatment option for BCS is surgical excision, but surgical margins should be wider than those for low-risk BCC due to the infiltrative growth pattern of this tumor. Favorable esthetic outcome requires precise planning of the reconstructive technique.PMID:37423823 | DOI:10.1016/j.anplas.2023.06.010 (Source: Annales de Chirurgie Plastique et Esthetique)

Vulvoplasty after gender-affirmating genital surgery
Ann Chir Plast Esthet. 2023 Jul 7:S0294-1260(23)00062-6. doi: 10.1016/j.anplas.2023.06.001. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFunctional and aesthetic results after vaginoplasty in sexual reassignment surgery have improved in recent years. Improved surgical techniques, well-established expert teams and a growing demand for and interest in this type of surgery are some of the reasons for these results. However, there is a growing demand for genital cosmetic surgery, not only among cis women, but also among trans women. The main shortcomings in results are therefore presented and listed. The aesthetic revision surgery techniques...

Transition, fertility and options for preservation of fertility
Ann Chir Plast Esthet. 2023 Jul 7:S0294-1260(23)00066-3. doi: 10.1016/j.anplas.2023.06.005. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOftentimes ignored or infrequently expressed, some transgender persons harbor a desire for parenthood. Given the evolution of medical techniques and the enacting of legislative reforms, it is henceforth possible to propose fertility preservation strategies in the overall context of gender transidentity. During the "female to male" (FtM) transition pathway, androgen therapy has an impact on gonadic function, generally inducing blockage of the ovarian function, with amenorrhea. Even though these events ma...

Eye feminization
Ann Chir Plast Esthet. 2023 Jul 7:S0294-1260(23)00069-9. doi: 10.1016/j.anplas.2023.06.008. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEye feminization embraces surgical and non-surgical aesthetic procedures used in order to feminize upper third of the face. Eye feminization is indicated for transwomen during facial gender affirming surgery, and also for aging women. During aging, volume of facial osseous and soft tissues is decreasing, the orbit is squeletonizing, with skin sagging, evolving in a more masculine appearance of the orbital area. Upper eye area analyze (forehead, temple, eyebrow, eyelid, external canthus) as lower eye are...

Titanium plates salvage in irradiated facial areas with the lipomodeling technique
We present two clinical cases of patients who had a facial reconstruction using a titanium plate associated with a locoregional soft tissue flap, and who presented a near-exposed plate a few years after the first surgery and adjuvant radiation therapy. In order to prevent plate exposure, we performed several lipomodeling sessions between skin and plate. Our results are very encouraging, with no plate exposure and thickening of the soft tissues which cover the plate at 10-years follow-up. The knowledge of the possibility to use fat grafting transfer could therefore lead to a strong return to the use of titanium plates in fa...
