Sperm-borne lncRNA loc100847420 improves development of early bovine embryos
In this study, we aimed to clarify how sperm-borne lncRNAs can act to regulate early development of bovine embryos. Utilizing high-throughput sequencing technology and quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR), we found that the lncRNA, loc100847420, was highly enriched in bovine sperm and was carried into the oocyte during fertilization. Introduction of wild-type loc100847420 had no effect on cleavage rate of parthenogenetic embryos compared with injection of mutant loc100847420 (70.58 ± 2.85% vs 70.46 ± 1.98%, p > 0.05), but significantly improved the blastocyst rate (33.67 ± 2.40% vs 28.35 ± 3.06%, p < 0.05), total nu...

Comparison of three reproductive management strategies for lactating dairy cows using combination of estrus detection or ovulation synchronization and Fixed-Timed Artificial Insemination
The objective of this study was to compare the reproductive performance of lactating dairy cows submitted to first AI after combination of estrus detection and fixed timed AI (FTAI) and FTAI only. Cows were randomly assigned to receive AI at detected estrus between 50 and 70 d in milk (DIM), if not detected in estrus, were enrolled in either Ovsynch (ED-Ov, n = 485) or PRIDsynch (ED-PR, n = 505) protocols; or received FTAI at 80 DIM after Double-Ovsynch protocol (DO, n = 501). Cows were body condition scored (BCS) at calving and at 43 DIM; and evaluated for postpartum disorders within 7 d postpartum; clinical mastitis, lam...

Artificial reproduction of the indoor-cultured brackish form of maraena whitefish (Coregonus maraena) under recirculated aquaculture system (RAS) conditions
Anim Reprod Sci. 2023 Sep 9;257:107329. doi: 10.1016/j.anireprosci.2023.107329. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMaraena whitefish (Coregonus maraena) is a promising coldwater aquaculture species, especially in terms of meat quality. This versatile whitefish species, which inhabits both fresh and brackish waters, including the Baltic Sea, offers promising prospects for aquaculture breeding and cultivation. However, the main problem is the lack of availability of spawners of this species. Therefore, in this study, an attempt was made to raise the spawning stock under controlled conditions and then artificially reproduce the fi...

Evaluation of pregnancy per artificial insemination of dairy animals detected in estrus during the synchronization protocol and assigned to conventional or sexed semen
Anim Reprod Sci. 2023 Aug 30;257:107324. doi: 10.1016/j.anireprosci.2023.107324. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThree experiments were designed to evaluate the effects of conventional and sexed-semen on reproductive performance of dairy females detected in estrus. In Exp. 1, 978 lactating Holstein cows and 116 Holstein heifers were used. Cows or heifers were randomly assigned to receive conventional (CONV) or sexed (SEXD) semen on day 0 of a TAI protocol. The TAI was performed using commercial CONV or SEXD frozen-thawed semen from the same 6 Holstein bulls, and SEXD semen was sexed through fluorescence cytometry. In Exp. 2,...

Role of the placenta in developmental programming: Observations from models using large animals
Anim Reprod Sci. 2023 Aug 30;257:107322. doi: 10.1016/j.anireprosci.2023.107322. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDevelopmental programming, which proposes that "insults" or "stressors" during intrauterine or postnatal development can have not only immediate but also long-term consequences for healthy and productivity, has emerged as a major biological principle, and based on studies in many animal species also seems to be a universal phenomenon. In eutherians, the placenta appears to be programmed during its development, which has consequences for fetal growth and development throughout pregnancy, and likewise has long-term ...

Clinical and subclinical endometritis in dromedary camels: An overview of definition and clinical presentation, etiopathogenesis, diagnostic biomarkers, and treatment protocols
Anim Reprod Sci. 2023 Sep 2;257:107328. doi: 10.1016/j.anireprosci.2023.107328. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe current review collected and analyzed research on clinical endometritis (CE) and subclinical endometritis (SCE) in dromedary camels in terms of definition and clinical presentation, etiopathogenesis, diagnostic biomarkers, and treatment protocols. CE is characterized by uterine inflammation with abnormal vaginal discharges, while SCE comprises uterine inflammation with no clinical signs and is described as the infiltration of polymorphnuclear cells into the endometrium. CE is the prevalent clinical finding of b...
