Long-term effects of middle ear pressure therapy with the EFET01 device in patients with M énière's disease and delayed endolymphatic hydrops in Japan
CONCLUSION: Our study clarified that MEPT with the EFET01 device was effective in controlling vertigo symptoms of MD and DEH. It should be considered a safe option for patients failing medical treatment.SIGNIFICANCE: The efficacy of MEPT with the EFET01 was shown over a 2-year follow-up period.PMID:37995205 | DOI:10.1080/00016489.2023.2284336 (Source: Acta Oto-Laryngologica)

Transoral robotic surgery - time for consensus on pain assessment. A review
CONCLUSIONS: The evidence for optimal pain control is limited, particularly during surgical relevant activity. Postoperative pain rating during activity is a fundamental element in pain trials in order to enhance recovery thereby calling for future consensus on assessment methodology.PMID:37991140 | DOI:10.1080/00016489.2023.2282149 (Source: Acta Oto-Laryngologica)

Clinical factors associated with severe surgical complications in patients with hypopharyngeal cancer: a single-center case-cohort study
CONCLUSIONS AND SIGNIFICANCE: T3/4 stage, RT, nonprimary closure, and DM were independent predisposing factors for severe surgical complications in our study population of hypopharyngeal cancer patients. Taking measures to lower the tumor stage and simplify the surgical procedure may be crucial in reducing the incidence of severe surgical complications among these patients.PMID:37982754 | DOI:10.1080/00016489.2023.2265981 (Source: Acta Oto-Laryngologica)

Did our cochlear implant program make any difference in the lives of our patients? Achievements of 30 patients with long term follow-up averaging 20 years after cochlear implantation
CONCLUSIONS: We made a difference in the lives of these patients, however, there is more to be done.SIGNIFICANCE: Early intervention, rehabilitation, plus family, and stimulating-environment are crucial in children with sensory deficits.PMID:37975845 | DOI:10.1080/00016489.2023.2277568 (Source: Acta Oto-Laryngologica)
