Evaluation of vestibular functions in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome
CONCLUSION AND SIGNIFICANCE: It was concluded that vestibular reflexes and proprioceptive perception were affected due to periodic/chronic hypoxia in patients with moderate and severe OSAS.PMID:37902611 | DOI:10.1080/00016489.2023.2269255 (Source: Acta Oto-Laryngologica)

The effect of dexamethasone on functional pain following Transoral Robotic Surgery: a randomized double blinded clinical trial
CONCLUSION: There were no differences in the pain intensity in the two treatment groups allocated to a basic multimodal analgesic package and either high-dose dexamethasone or low-dose dexamethasone treatment. The trial is the first RCT to include pain measurement during a procedure-relevant activity, thus creating a platform for future recovery studies.PMID:37902607 | DOI:10.1080/00016489.2023.2269998 (Source: Acta Oto-Laryngologica)

Acoustic differences in tinnitus between noise-induced and non-noise-induced hearing loss
CONCLUSIONS: Tinnitus differs acoustically between patients with NIHL and those with non-noise-induced hearing loss, with specific patterns of intensity and auditory responses. These findings emphasize the need for tailoring the management of tinnitus according to the underlying type of hearing loss.PMID:37897331 | DOI:10.1080/00016489.2023.2266471 (Source: Acta Oto-Laryngologica)

Vestibular function, subjective complaints, perceived disability in daily life, and sports activities in patients with cochlear implants performed during childhood: a prospective cross-section study
CONCLUSION & SIGNIFICANCE: This first middle to long-term evaluation of the VF in CI-patients, implanted in childhood, pointed out that 85% of patients were asymptomatic, with a mean time of >10 years after surgery. Vestibular impairment and symptoms seem to be mainly due to the underlying inner ear's disease rather than surgery.PMID:37897347 | DOI:10.1080/00016489.2023.2268159 (Source: Acta Oto-Laryngologica)

Revision cochlear implant surgery in adults and children is a safe and effective technique: a retrospective single faculty study in Okayama University Hospital, Japan
CONCLUSION AND SIGNIFICANCE: Caregiver education, surgical technique advances, flap design, and extensive antibiotic use may decrease the revision surgery rate. The lack of post-revision deterioration of the hearing threshold contributed to well-being in patients with CI.PMID:37897368 | DOI:10.1080/00016489.2023.2270701 (Source: Acta Oto-Laryngologica)
