The diagnostic yield of inferior petrosal sinus sampling in Cushing syndrome in the era of ovine CRH shortage
ConclusionsWith the current drug shortages in Europe, ACTH measurements without oCRH stimulation in IPSS cannot be recommended. Thus, we call for desmopressin or the commercially available human CRH as a potential alternative in the confirmation of ACTH excess by IPSS in equivocal MRI findings. (Source: Acta Neurochirurgica)

Venous thromboembolism chemical prophylaxis after skull base surgery
ConclusionPostoperative chemoprophylaxis represents a relatively safe strategy in patients undergoing skull base surgery. We advocate a personalised approach to chemoprophylaxis and recommend it on postoperative days 1 or 2 when indicated. (Source: Acta Neurochirurgica)

Cognition and health-related quality of life in long-term survivors of high-grade glioma: an interactive perspective from patient and caregiver
ConclusionsIn long-term HGG survivors maintained HRQoL seems possible even when cognition is impaired in a large variety at the individual level. A tailored approach is therefore recommended to investigate the cognitive impairments and HRQoL in patients and the need for patient and caregiver support. (Source: Acta Neurochirurgica)

Beyond fluorescence-guided resection: 5-ALA-based glioblastoma therapies
AbstractGlioblastoma is the most common primary malignant brain tumor. Despite advances in multimodal concepts over the last decades, prognosis remains poor. Treatment of patients with glioblastoma remains a considerable challenge due to the infiltrative nature of the tumor, rapid growth rates, and tumor heterogeneity. Standard therapy consists of maximally safe microsurgical resection followed by adjuvant radio- and chemotherapy with temozolomide. In recent years, local therapies have been extensively investigated in experimental as well as translational levels. External stimuli-responsive therapies such as Photodynamic T...

Predictive factors of the postoperative proptosis recovery in surgery of spheno-orbital meningiomas
ConclusionsSurgery effectively improves proptosis in SOM, though complete resolution is rare. The absence of predictive factors suggests multifactorial causes, including body mass index and tumor resection grade. Postoperative oculomotor nerve dysfunction and trigeminal hypoesthesia are common but often recover. Gamma-knife radiosurgery maintains long-term oncological control for evolving tumor residue.
