High-throughput RNA sequencing identifies the miRNA expression profile, target genes, and molecular pathways contributing to growth of sporadic vestibular schwannomas
ConclusionWe identified a set of 9 miRNAs that are significantly deregulated in large VS in comparison to small, intracanalicular tumors. The functional enrichment analysis of these miRNAs suggests novel mechanisms, such as that lipid metabolism, as well as Hippo and FOxO signaling pathways that may play an important role in VS growth regulation. Development and validation of a 23-gene expression signature for molecular subtyping of medulloblastoma in a long-term Chinese cohort
ConclusionsIn conclusion, we present a novel gene signature that is capable of accurately and reliably assigning FFPE medulloblastoma samples to their molecular subgroup, which may serve as an auxiliary tool for medulloblastoma subtyping in the clinic. Future incorporation of this gene signature into prospective clinical trials is warranted to further evaluate its clinical. (Source: Acta Neurochirurgica)

Biportal endoscopic-assisted cortical bone trajectory screw placement and lumbar interbody fusion
ConclusionsWe successfully performed unilateral biportal endoscopic lumbar interbody fusion (ULIF) with CBT and reversed CBT screws. Compared with percutaneous pedicle screw (PPS) placement, this procedure is a minimally invasive, endoscopic alternative that allows precise screw placement. (Source: Acta Neurochirurgica)

Applied deep learning in neurosurgery: identifying cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunt systems in hydrocephalus patients
ConclusionThis technology has the potential to automatically detect different shunt valve models in a fast and precise way and may facilitate the identification of an unknown shunt valve on X-ray or CT scout images. The deep learning model we developed could be integrated into PACS systems or standalone mobile applications to enhance clinical workflows. (Source: Acta Neurochirurgica)

Safety and efficacy of frameless stereotactic robot-assisted intraparenchymal brain lesion biopsies versus image-guided biopsies: a bicentric comparative study
ConclusionIn our bicentric comparative study, robot-assisted stereotactic and image-guided biopsies have two main differences (shorter time but more frequent postoperative hematoma for image-guided biopsies); however, both techniques are demonstrated to be safe and efficient.
