A pilot clinical study to estimate intracranial pressure utilising cerebral photoplethysmograms in traumatic brain injury patients
ConclusionThe clinical evaluation of this innovative optical nICP sensor revealed its ability to estimate ICP non-invasively with acceptable and clinically useful accuracy. This breakthrough opens the door to further technological refinement and larger-scale clinical studies in the future.Trial registrationNCT05632302, 11th November 2022, retrospectively registered. Exo- and endoscopic lateral orbital wall approach for the medial temporal lobe glioma: how I do it
ConclusionThe LOWA provides a safe and natural surgical corridor to the MTL and enables 2- or 3-hand surgery. Hence, LOWA can potentially improve safety and efficiency to treat MTL lesions. (Source: Acta Neurochirurgica)

Overlapping stimulation of subthalamic nucleus and dentato-rubro-thalamic tract in Parkinson ’s disease after deep brain stimulation
ConclusionsDRTt proximity to STN, the main target in PD DBS surgery, confirmed by DWI with tractography protocol of MR combined with proper predefined stimulation parameters may improve efficacy of DBS-STN. (Source: Acta Neurochirurgica)

A preliminary study on the spasticity reduction of quadriceps after selective dorsal rhizotomy in pediatric cases of spastic cerebral palsy
ConclusionsSDR demonstrates the potential to reduce muscle spasticity in lower extremities in children diagnosed with CP, including a notable impact on quadriceps spasticity even they are not targeted in SDR. The utilization of intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring data enhances the predictability of quadriceps spasticity reduction following SDR. (Source: Acta Neurochirurgica)

Transmaxillary approach for resection of maxillary division trigeminal schwannoma at foramen rotundum
ConclusionThe transmaxillary approach provides a safe and entirely extradural corridor to access smaller localized skull base lesions at and surrounding the cavernous sinus. (Source: Acta Neurochirurgica)

How I do it: hearing preservation in large vestibular schwannomas using vestibular nerve fiber preservation technique
ConclusionPreservation of hearing function is feasible in large vestibular schwannomas with vestibular-nerve-fiber preservation. Reducing manipulation and ischemic injury of underlying cochlear and facial nerves thereby helped facilitate hearing preservation, even in large tumors. (Source: Acta Neurochirurgica)

An objective skill assessment framework for microsurgical anastomosis based on ALI scores
ConclusionThe framework enables accurate skill assessment and provides objective feedback for improving microsurgical anastomosis skills among surgical trainees. By overcoming the subjectivity and limitations of current assessment methods, our approach contributes to the advancement of surgical education and the development of aspiring microsurgeons. Furthermore, our framework emerges to precisely distinguish and classify proficiency levels (novice and intermediate) exhibited by microsurgeons. (Source: Acta Neurochirurgica)

Surgical and endovascular cerebral revascularization for cerebral vasculitis with inflammatory vessel stenosis: a case series
AbstractAutoimmune vasculitides affect the cerebral vasculature significantly in a considerable number of cases. When immunosuppressive treatments fail to prevent stenosis in cerebral vessels, treatment options for affected patients become limited. In this case series, we present four cases of pharmacoresistant vasculitis with recurrent transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) or stroke successfully treated with either extracranial-intracranial (EC-IC) bypass surgery or endovascular stenting. Both rescue treatments were effective and safe in the selected cases. Our experience suggests that cases of pharmacoresistant cerebral vasc...
