What a difference 3 weeks on the Wheat Belly lifestyle can make
Ben shared his 3-week experience living the Wheat Belly lifestyle after being diagnosed with celiac disease: “My family doctor diagnosed me with celiac and wheat allergies. These pictures were taken 3 weeks apart: prior to the diagnosis and three weeks later, a photo of me after following the Wheat Belly books that my doctor recommended I get. “I still feel like I eat like a king. I am just a lot more cautious about what I put into my body and I am seeing the results!” You can see that Ben’s face shows the changes we expect to see as inflammation recedes: reduced cheek and around-the-eyes edema, la...

Shanda’s life and health turnaround on the Wheat Belly lifestyle
Shanda shared her impressive experience living the Wheat Belly lifestyle: “I am in shock right now. I just found a picture of me before starting my journey in 2012. You gave me my life back. “I used to have IBS symptoms, UTI [urinary tract infection] symptoms (with no infection), debilitating lower abdominal pains that no doctor could ever figure out. I was taking massive amounts of pain killers. My anxiety got to the point of panic attacks (I felt like I couldn’t breathe). I had chronic depression that I had since childhood. I also had horrible PMS problems, and absolutely no energy to do anything. To t...

Lori down to a size 4 and healthy
Lori shared her photos and experience in following the Wheat Belly lifestyle: “After 7 months on Wheat Belly, I went from a size 11 to a size 4. “At 51, I feel the best I have felt for years. My fibromyalgia is gone along with my bloated belly, IBS, mood swings, depression and rash! Here are Lori’s “before” and “after” facial photos: Lori had several of the “signature” problems of wheat and grain consumption, health problems that are, to a substantial degree, so common in so many people who eat wheat/grains that reverse entirely with their elimination. In particular, ...

Wheat Belly Survey Update: It’s Better Than We Thought!
I recently reported the crude numbers from the Wheat Belly Survey that revealed some impressive results. Of the 4200 responses received–thank you!–1200 came from people who had not started the Wheat Belly lifestyle yet. (Most newcomers also did not provide full data.) Having so many newcomers therefore skewed the results a bit. If those 1200 newcomers are excluded, then another round of analyses of the remaining 3000 people demonstrate: 70.0% reported increased energy 51.3% reported improved sleep 48.8% reported partial or total relief from chronic headaches 63.4% reported partial or total relief from mind &#...

Ann still going strong
Ann provided these photos, a “before” on the left and her most recent update on the right. “That’s a picture 5 years ago that was not at my heaviest. I was about 300 pounds in the picture.” You may remember Ann from two previous Wheat Belly Blog posts: April, 2015 and a June, 2015 update. Ann began her Wheat Belly journey in October, 2014 after being put on a waiting list for gastric bypass surgery while plagued with rheumatoid arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), migraine headaches, chronic hives, asthma, chronic pain and other conditions. She did ...

The initial Wheat Belly survey results are in!
Nearly 3400 responses came in within hours of releasing the first Wheat Belly Survey. Due to the number of responses, it will require some time to analyze and breakdown the results into, for example, the experiences of people before they begin, the first week when most people are struggling with withdrawal/detoxification phenomena, and long-term outcomes. But it will prove to be fascinating, perhaps teaching us some new lessons about the power of this lifestyle. Nonetheless, if we lump everyone–beginners and experienced–together, some crude numbers jump out: 61% reported reduced or complete relief from joint p...

It’s not just weight loss we’re after: it’s HEALTH
Kristina shared her Wheat Belly experience since originally posting her “before” photo (left) a year ago: “This pic (right) was taken August, 2015. I have now been wheat- and grain-free for a year and 10 days. “I have learned a lot about myself and how my body reacts to different foods that I eat. I must say that I feel better, look better, and I am so glad to be living this lifestyle indefinitely. I have lost 53 pounds and almost 10 inches off my waist.” Kristina makes an essential point: If you are attuned to the way you feel, you can identify many of the adverse effects that wheat and grai...

‘Why Don’t They Just Leave?’ Domestic Violence Goes Beyond Physical Abuse
Today’s post originally ran on HuffPost Women. “It starts out little by little,” domestic violence expert Dr. Ludy Green said, as she described the typical pattern of financial abuse. “This is a concept that the general public is not yet familiar with, which makes it harder to recognize, treat, and study than physical abuse” said Dr. Green [1]. After witnessing firsthand the damage caused by financial abuse, Dr. Green founded Second Chance Employment Services (SCES), a nonprofit organization that helps promote financial security for survivors of domestic violence. The general public’s la...

Of PCPs and THC
By ROB LAMBERTS, MD The drug test came back abnormal.  There was THC present.  I walked back to Mrs. Johnson and raised my eyebrows. “What’s wrong?” she asked, not used to whatever kind of look I was giving her. “Uh, you forgot to mention to me that you smoke weed.” She blushed and then smirked.  “Well, yes, I guess I forgot to put that down on the sheet.  I don’t do it real often, but sometimes it takes mind off of things.  I just get real anxious about my kids, my husband…and my heart problems. I only smoke one or two a night” She’s not your usual picture...

Wheat Belly is an anti-inflammatory lifestyle
Laura has not only lost a substantial amount of weight from inflammatory visceral fat resulting in a dramatic reduction in waist size, but has also experienced a reduction in the issues associated with her autoimmune diseases: “I have been on Wheat Belly for about 2 years. I have rheumatoid arthritis and lupus and have seen huge improvements and lowering of meds due to this wonderful plan. So far (and I still need to lose more) I have lost 80 lbs and am still losing. First pic is of me at our high school reunion in 2013 and the next one is today. I think you can see a bit of the difference. I am happy to be down, eve...

Daphne, a former skeptic, now a Wheat Belly believer
Daphne was a Wheat Belly skeptic. There are lots of them out there. And I understand that. I, too, was once a skeptic. After all, I started this journey over 20 years ago following a strict low-fat, vegetarian diet. I first began observing the astounding changes in health in my cardiac patients who I counseled to eliminate all wheat to reduce formation of small LDL particles–the most common abnormality in people with coronary disease–and high blood sugars. At first, I didn’t know what to make of the astounding weight loss, the reduction in appetite, the reversal of joint pain and skin rashes, the reversa...

Kay relieved from the agony of weight loss
Kay shared her story of weight loss success and failure, the calorie- and point-counting, the emotional turmoil, yielding temporary success, if any success at all, even as a Weight Watchers instructor. But when she discovered that wheat and grains were the culprit for both health, as well as weight, disruptions, she was freed of all the nonsense that passes for weight loss programs. “My name is Kay. I am 63 years old and I have had a weight issue all of my adult life. I started gaining weight after my first child and, I’ll be quite honest with you, I thought, why not get pregnant? I’m already overweight ...

You’ve probably got dysbiosis: An excerpt from Wheat Belly Total Health
Here’s an excerpt from chapter 9, Full Recovery From Post-Traumatic Grain Gut Syndrome, of Wheat Belly Total Health about the exceptionally common issue of dysbiosis: “Up to 35 percent of people with no other gastrointestinal disease and no symptoms have bacterial overgrowth (dysbiosis) or other distortions of bowel flora composition. Even though many doctors regard irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) as a benign condition, 30 to 85 percent of people with IBS have varying degrees of dysbiosis at the time of their diagnosis–it is not benign. Overgrowth of unhealthy bacteria is common in people who have low stom...

The freedom of the Wheat Belly lifestyle
Zeffrey posted this wonderful description of the relief he has obtained from a number of chronic conditions by removing the inflammatory, allergic, bowel-disrupting, and mind-controlling factors that come from wheat and grains: “To me wheat-free is to breathe free. No more stuffy and running nose. Relief from just these two issues alone saved me a lot of money–no more boxes of facial tissues, no more antihistamines: Dayquil, Nyquil, Benadryl and the ‘so you can sleep’ pills and all the other cold symptom remedies that I have used over the years. “To me wheat-free is to live food craving-free. ...
