Best dose fractionation to try to induce Abscopal in NSCLC?
Hello dear friends, I have a 60 yo patient, very fit that was diagnosed of a left NSCLC, that was resected and received adjuvant RT for N2 disease. She did very well. 2 years later she developed 4 small nodules in the right Lung (controlateral) as only site for disease progression. Biopsy revealed NCSLC , PDL-1+>90%. She received a Immunotherapy. at the follow-up, the number of lesions increased to 7 nodules. 2 out of 7 increased in size - with one adherent to the chestwall and that may... Question about Head and Neck Cancers and Immunotherapy
In my cancer immunology class, we discussed immunotherapies for various head and neck cancers. We had a surgical oncologist come in and talk about his work as well. What I'm curious about is, how will immunotherapies affect surgical treatment of H&N cancers? Will it render surgical intervention obsolete or will it help surgeons more easily resect the tumors? ASTRO to CMS: "By the love of all that's holy, PLEASE delay rolling out the APM!"
https://www.journalofclinicalpathways.com/news/astro-congress-urge-cms-adjust-radiation-oncology-apm Final decision expected soon. We are all waiting with bated breath. Have to say I agree with ASTRO on this one - most programs need at least one year (1/2021) to implement appropriate infrastructure to meet mandates of RO APM. Then again, Azar does need to make some cuts ASAP to account for all the immunotherapy/CAR-T products in the pipeline for 2020 . . . (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Reflexion - BgRT
I heard a presentation yesterday from Reflexion - they have built an integrated Tomotherapy + PET unit to perform what they call "biologically-directed therapy" or BgRT. I am happy to answer questions about it on this thread. Two things which stood out from the presentation is that the entire concept of BgRT is predicated on two large assumptions (supported by preliminary research but not validated in large trials): 1. SRS/SBRT + Immunotherapy = abscopal effect = better patient endpoints... Reflexion - BgRT (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Vaccine against cancer: a progressive solution.
The proposal of vaccines against cancer is presented in three stages, the first stage covers the research published by Moshe Reuven et al in the American Chemical Society in which a immunotherapy prevention is created, that, by using antigens and glyconanoparticles created by a biomimetic process, produce more immune cells and get them to easily identify the canker cells in the body and then destroy them. (Moshe et al, 2019). The second stage applies to those who are suffering... Vaccine against cancer: a progressive solution. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Question about Surgical Oncologists (because of a class event)
We had a Surgical Oncologist come into our class, and talk about what he does for a living. The class was on Cancer Immunology, and he talked about how he was working on immunotherapy for rectal cancer. He told us that in the past rectal cancer patients often were inoperable and were poor candidates for surgery, but that with advances, things have considerably improved. I'm curious about the following. With the success of immunotherapy, will a lot of surgical oncological procedures become... Advice on journal to submit to
Hello everyone. I'm looking for advice on where I could submit this research project I did during medical school. Basically it's a broad historical overview of the history of cancer immunotherapy, from 1880's to modern day with some analysis and projections into the future. I have submitted it to 3 journals so far which all said something along the lines of "this is good and interesting to read, but is not within the scope of our journal. We only accept journals answering a specific... Advice on journal to submit to (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Future of Rad Onc with therapy advances
I'm interested in pursuing Radiation Oncology, and was hoping to hear some thoughts on what the future will be like for Radiation Oncologists with some of the advancements in cancer therapy coming out (immunotherapy, for example). From my naive perspective, it seems like the future is pretty uncertain. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is Immunotherapy only the purview of Med Onc?
M4 here, currently pursuing a path in Radiation Oncology. I have always been keenly interested in cancer since I started medical school, and was drawn specifically to Rad Onc due to its use of technology, treatment success, academic nature, and comprehensive range of malignancies one is able to see in this field. However, there were certainly aspects of Medical Oncology that I was attracted to as well; having a little more "ownership" of the patient being one, and the exciting new... I have tons of volunteer experience (Clinical + Non-clinical), 300+ hours shadowing (MD + DO), a few publications (Trauma, Immunotherapy, Public Health), and have done NK Cell Immunotherapy research for the past 18 months. Currently working as the Biology Lab Coordinator for a university and as a research for UCSF Peds Residency program.
