Finally it seems that life might return to normal in the UK, as the vaccination efforts continue apace, and despite concern about increasingly spreading variants, our hospitals are not being overwhelmed.
Because of this, we are changing our approach to covering the pandemic - and taking this second wave podcast to pastures new, but before that, in this last episode we’re going to look backwards and forwards, at the UK’s response.

Melatonin for preoperative and postoperative anxiety in adults
The Cochrane Anaesthesia Group has produced a wide variety of reviews relevant to procedures related to surgery. One of these looks at the use of melatonin for preoperative and postoperative anxiety in adults and it was updated in December 2020. We asked the new lead author, Bennedikte Madsen, from the Center for Perioperative Optimizationin Herlev Hospital in Denmark to tell us about the latest findings. In March 2021, they published the update of their review of opioids for newborn babies requiring mechanical ventilation and we asked two co-authors of the review, Olga Romantsik and Matteo Bruschettini from Sk åne University Hospital in Lund, Sweden, to tell us about the latest findings.
