A new Cardiodectes Wilson, 1917 (Hexanauplia: Copepoda: Siphonostomatoida) parasitic on a scarid teleost (Perciformes: Scaridae) from Roatan Island, Central America
Syst Parasitol. 2022 Aug 11. doi: 10.1007/s11230-022-10059-z. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMembers of the parasitic copepod family Pennellidae are highly transformed ecto- or mesoparasites infecting a wide array of marine teleosts. Currently, this family contains more than 20 valid genera. The pennellid genus Cardiodectes Wilson, 1917 is currently known to contain 15 nominal species. Some pennellids exhibit a complex life cycle involving an intermediate host; it is known that planktonic pteropod molluscs are intermediate hosts for Cardiodectes. Pennellid mesoparasites can be detected by the conspicuous female egg-carrying...

Relationship between insulin-biochemical resistance levels and the degree of depression and anxiety in patients from Honduras
ConclusionsOur results provide important evidence of a direct and growing association between HOMA-IR and the severity of depression, and indirectly with anxiety. Secondarily, also with anthropometric factors (BMI and WC), traditionally associated with cardiovascular risk. This finding has important implications both for the early diagnosis of these mental pathologies, taking into account HOMA-IR values, and for preventive interventions focused on maintaining blood insulin levels. Barriers to access to health services for women and children in Latin AmericaBarreiras de acesso aos servi ços de saúde para mulheres e crianças na América Latina
CONCLUSIONS: Women who reported barriers to access had a statistically significant lower probability of using essential health services for themselves and their children. Strategies aimed at removing barriers should focus not only on improving the range of services offered, but also address issues related to norms, gender roles, and women's empowerment if sustainable progress toward universal access is to be made.PMID:35875315 | PMC:PMC9299390 | DOI:10.26633/RPSP.2022.94 (Source: Pan American Journal of Public Health)
