Dental Life Style
Hi, I am thinking about dentistry, but I would like to know more about this industry. I have shadowed several general dentists and dental specialists, but I would like to know more. 1. Do dentists have health insurance themselves? (They don't have dental coverage themselves? If they really want health insurance, do they buy it themselves?) 2. Is paying back student loans hard? Many dental schools in North America are expensive. 3. Dental Associate VS Owning your own business. I mean, as... Dental Life Style (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Agency vs private practice as a psychologist
I am curious about your decision-making regarding going into an agency such as university counseling centers, hospitals, VA, etc versus starting your own private practice. What helped you choose? Agencies: Pros: job security, stable income, benefits such as retirement contributions/health insurance/paid vacation/paid CEUs and professional development, resources, and a supportive team Cons: not as high paying, 8 am-5 pm job, politics within the department or... Tail vs Incurred But Not Reported for Locum Tenens???
I was looking to do some locums work as an anesthesiologist for Xenon Health. Normally I request tail coverage so that I won't be stuck with $15-20k for coverage as a prerequisite for other health insurance or jobs in the future. Their insurance policy doesn't provide tail but provide Incurred But Not Reported (IBNR) coverage. As I understand it, insurance is covered as long as Xenon has an active policy even after a provider ends their contract with Xenon. Then if Xenon decides to... Opinion Question: Health a human right or privilege?
I know this may sound like a silly question, but I genuinely would like to know if it is safe to mention my personal belief that healthcare is a fundamental human right in my personal statement. I understand that there is controversy over this question, primarily due to its slippery spiral into a conversation about political position and view towards health insurance/other related topics, so I am wondering how adcoms read this. I sentence in my PS talks about how I come to believe... Opinion Question: Health a human right or privilege? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Are you required to take the health insurance offered by your medical school? Even if under 26 and on parent's health insurance?
I am currently on my parents health insurance as I am under 26 and it doesn't cost them any more to have me on the policy because my little sister is on there and 1 child is the same price as 2.* I will hopefully be starting medical school fall of 2020. I will be in med school for about a year and a half before turning 26. As I prepare for AMCAS/AACOMAS and research schools, I see health insurance listed in the listed with fees and such in addition to tuition. I know the fees aren't... How do you buy good health insurance when self-employed?
Hi all - I've got a question for you all, as this a financially/practically savvy group. My significant other (who I'm not married to) needs to get independent health insurance to facilitate becoming a self-employed independent contractor. Unfortunately It's not possible to get it through my employer unless we're married. TBD. Have you bought insurance on your own in the open market and how did you go about doing so? I assume this must come up for those of you who are self-employed? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

1099 in CA
Hi all - Newish partner in my lifestyle-esaque group. We, however, are W2. I’m told from are managing accountants we cannot be 1099, which would be a lot more beneficial to us as we pay for a lot of things ourselves i.e. CME, malpractice, health insurance. I’m told that if you work solely at one center then you can’t be 1099 for tax purposes. Is this true? I see jobs all over gaswork and some colleagues have mentioned that they friends in other groups that are one center 1099. I have to... 1099 in CA (Source: Student Doctor Network)

ACP Endorses Single-Payer system
“Although the United States leads the world in health care spending, it fares far worse than its peers on coverage and most dimensions of value. Cost and coverage are intertwined. Many Americans cannot afford health insurance, and even those with insurance face substantial cost-related barriers to care. Employer-sponsored insurance is less prevalent and more expensive than in the past, and in response, deductibles have grown and benefits have been cut. The long-term solvency of U.S. public... Health Insurance for ICs in 2020
What are you guys doing for health insurance next year? I used Cigna from the Marketplace last year but this year was looking into "Physician Solutions" which was sent out through my CMG employer. I'm a little unfamiliar with the business model. They deduct like $2500 at the beginning of the month, and then deposit that amount minus the cost of the plan minus a $95 administration fee. My understanding is that it is done this way to overcome federal wage laws and give access to group... Health Insurance for ICs in 2020 (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Hello, Third year resident here looking for advice in the job search process. Got Let Go from Research Coordinator Job...
Luckily it was for financial reasons and I have a couple months to find a new job. They will help me find a new job in the university. Should I? I live so far and it would be extremely difficult to study for the MCAT. Or should I opt for another medical job closer to home and study? I don't know how strong the letter would be given how short I worked here... Then again I need health insurance. (Source: Student Doctor Network)
