It Looks To Me Like Some Are Using Yours And My Health Data Without Our Consent Or Knowledge.
A couple of months ago I published these two blogs: First: Friday, July 23, 2021 I Am Not Sure I Am Comfortable With (Private) Public Health Networks Holding All This Data. I noticed this during last week. Data hosting 17 June 2021 Primary Health Insights, the health data storage and analytics platform initiated and built by PHNs, is now operational. A project to explore patterns of use of online services in general practice across Surrey Heath CCG and barriers to their uptake
Public Health England -This project is in line with the national ambition to support the adoption of a range of technology initiatives in general practice. The aims of the project were to achieve a better understanding of the needs of segments of the population through: reviewing the evidence relating to the effectiveness of online services to support general practice; identifying groups that are more and less likely to use these services; analysing the use of online services by the Surrey Heath CCG population to identify any associations between patterns in usage and demographic factors; and conducting insight gathering w...

Now It Will Be Very Interesting To See Just What This Audit Reveals.
I spotted this last week: OAIC to commence GP Privacy Audits 25 August 2021 The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) has announced its plan to audit General Practice clinics ’ compliance with My Health Record privacy obligations. The audits are being described by OAIC as ‘assessments’ and will focus on promoting good privacy practice. Under Rule 42(1) of the My Health Records Rule 2016, any healthcare provider organisation that uses the My Health Record System (in cluding GP clinics) must have a written access policy in place. That policy must ensure staff and contractors’ access to the MHR syst...

Does This Mean That E-Prescribing Is Not Seen As Being Very Valuable?
This appeared last week. Further extension of electronic prescription subsidy The Department of Health will support general practices to prescribe via SMS until at least 30 June 2022. Morgan Liotta 10 Aug 2021 The number of electronic prescriptions being used in Australia is increasing by around 500,000 every week, and as of July 2021, more than 12 millionoriginal and repeat prescriptions have been issued.  To date, this growth has been supported by a Federal Government subsidy that has allowed general practices to prescribe via SMS without incurring additional costs.  However, there were concerns about the f...

A wait on your mind?: a realistic proposal for tackling the elective backlog
Policy Exchange -This research looks at the entirety of the patient pathway and proposes a package of policy recommendations. These range from how to best address the bottleneck in general practice and diagnostics, to the method of clinical prioritisation, the communication with the patient, the role for pre-habilitation, and then finally considers the policy framework which should underpin an expansion in elective care capacity over the medium term.ReportPolicy Exchange - publications (Source: Health Management Specialist Library)

I Think I Have Said That We Need 50% Usage Of E-Prescriptions To Declare Them Success. Are We There Yet?
I first looked at this in March. See here: https://aushealthit.blogspot.com/2021/03/the-news-on-eprescribing-continues-to.html And my comment on what would look like success – in the blog title – is here – again in March: https://www.ausdoc.com.au/practice/have-you-written-escript-yet-12000-gps-have This interesting collection of partially useful updated statistics appeared last week. The Science of Clinical Intuition
By HANS DUVEFELT In 2002, Dr. Trisha Greenhalgh published a piece in the British Journal of General Practice titled Intuition and Evidence – Uneasy Bedfellows? In it she writes eloquently about the things Christer Petersson and I have written articles on and emailed each other about. He mentioned her name and also Italian philosopher Lisa Bortolotti, and I got down to some serious reading. These two remarkable thinkers have described very eloquently how clinical intuition actually works and describe it as an advanced, instantaneous form of pattern recognition. Clinical Intuition (should we start calling t...

Racism and discrimination: the experience of primary care professionals in the Humberside region

Pandemic patient experience II: from lockdown to vaccine roll-out
Patients Association - In 2020, patients told the Patients Association about their experiences of living with health and care needs during the Covid-19 pandemic. Their testimony painted a bleak picture in many ways. This follow-up survey (drawing on 453 responses, submitted over February, March and early April 2021) finds that many aspects of their experiences are not much better, and some are worse. General practice services remains difficult for many, and patients overall do not regard remote consultations as an adequate replacement for in-person appointments.ReportMore detail (Source: Health Management Specialist Library)
