The Macro View – Health, Economics, and Politics and the Big Picture. What I Am Watching Here And Abroad.
August 18, 2022 Edition-----The main issue, probably of the year, is the increasing tension across the Taiwan Strait with all sorts of worries about how conflict can be avoided and prosperity maintained at a reasonable level as tensions continue. And hopefully ease. The impact of climate change in Europe is really becoming obvious and worrying. I am not sure just how a realistic response is possible in any reasonable time.In OZ the PM has come back after a week off to have the Chinese Ambassador tell us we are a vassal and to just shut up and behave. Astonishing and serious stuff IMVHO.-----Major Issues.-----https://www.smh...

The Macro View – Health, Economics, and Politics and the Big Picture. What I Am Watching Here And Abroad.
August 04, 2022 Edition-----The war seems to grind on sadly and Pres. Biden is having a second round with COVID as unprecedented weather happens all over the US. It all feels rather like ‘the end of days’!In the UK we see an increasing chance of a third female PM being elected as the country seems to be struggling. We do need to remember however the UK remains a significant power with nuclear weapons and home-grown nuclear submarines! In OZ we have had last week working out how to progress the First Nations ‘Voice’ as we wrap up the 1st session of Parliament for the new Government. REAL Centre projections: general practice workforce in England
The Health Foundation -This analysis warns that without urgent, significant policy action, the NHS in England is facing a shortage of GPs and general practice nurses over the coming decade. The projections show that the shortage of qualified, permanent GPs is set to get substantially worse over this decade. There is currently a shortage of around 4,200 full-time equivalent (FTE) GPs, which is projected to rise to around 10,700 FTE GPs in 2030/31, relative to the number needed to meet the rising need for care. This means that without a change to current workforce trends and policies, more than one in four of the 37,800 gene...

Access to and delivery of general practice services: a study of patients at practices using digital and online tools
Health Foundation - This briefing examined data from 146 GP practices in England using the askmyGP online consultation system between 1 March 2019 and 30 September 2021. The analysis found that that ten per cent of patient care requests made to GP practices indicate a preference for a face-to-face consultation. Recently, the increasing use of online consultations systems such as askmyGP caused concern about the risk of digital tools creating inequalities by making it difficult for some patients to access care. However, the analysis shows that patients often choose remote over face-to-face consultations and that GP pr...
