Octagam Trial Results Show Promise
Since the New England Journal of Medicine publication on intravenous immune globulin (IVIG) for dermatomyositis late last year, the data have proved a major lift for patient care, offering crucial new insights into how best to manage patients and clues about how to minimize risks.1 The ProDERM trial results also seem to have opened up... Dosing Strategy of Immunoglobulin (IgG) Replacement Therapies in Obese and Overweight Patients with Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases (PIDDs): A Meta-Analysis of Clinical Trials
J Clin Pharmacol. 2023 Nov;63 Suppl 2:S110-S116. doi: 10.1002/jcph.2368.ABSTRACTThe current dosing strategy of immune globulin products for the treatment of primary immunodeficiency diseases (PIDDs) in the USA is based on total body weight (BW). The aim of our study was to assess the relationship between dose and trough level, and to determine whether an alternative dosing strategy should be considered for patients who are overweight or obese. We analyzed data in a total of 533 patients from 11 studies. We modeled the relationship between trough level and dose per week using a linear mixed model. We used an over-dispersed ...

Case Report: Insulin hypersensitivity in youth with type 1 diabetes
ConclusionAlthough rare, insulin hypersensitivity reactions negatively affect glycemic control and quality of life. These cases demonstrate the varying severity and presentation of insulin hypersensitivity reactions along with the limited success of various treatment approaches. Given the life-sustaining nature of insulin therapy, further studies are needed to better understand the underlying pathophysiology of insulin hypersensitivity and to develop targeted treatment approaches. A Korean family with RHD*DNT only detectable after anti-D alloimmunization
CONCLUSIONS: We recommend DNT individuals as candidates for Rh immune globulin prophylaxis during the perinatal period and transfusions with D- blood components. An anticipatory RHD genotyping is suggested for partial D family members to prevent potential partial D individuals from becoming alloimmunized.PMID:37852281 | DOI:10.1093/ajcp/aqad132 (Source: American Journal of Clinical Pathology)

Standardization of a multiplex assay to identify weak D types in a mixed-race Brazilian population
Immunohematology. 2023 Oct 16;39(3):93-100. doi: 10.2478/immunohematology-2023-016. eCollection 2023 Sep 1.ABSTRACTRH allele variability is caused by several types of variants, resulting in altered RhD and RhCE phenotypes. Most of the weak D phenotypes in European-derived populations are weak D types 1, 2, or 3, which are not involved in alloimmunization episodes. However, the Brazilian population is racially diverse, and the accuracy of molecular and serologic tests developed in recent years has allowed for the identification of other RH variants, that are common in the Brazilian population, such as weak D type 38 or weak...
