Sarcoidosis with esophageal involvement: an uncommon clinical enigma
We present the case of a 46-year-old male, a former smoker, with a medical history significant for morbid obesity grade III, hypothyroidism, hyperuricemia, and dyslipidemia. Four months ago, he was diagnosed with sarcoidosis involving mediastinal lymph nodes and is currently undergoing treatment with corticosteroids. The patient presented to the emergency department with persistent epigastric and thoracic pain lasting one week, accompanied by dysphagia and odynophagia intermittently. Laboratory tests showed elevated acute-phase reactants, with no other notable abnormalities. Chest X-ray revealed pre-existing mediastinal ad...

Chronological Trend of Opportunistic Endoscopic Screening for Gastric Cancer and Atrophic Gastritis
CONCLUSIONS: The gastric cancer detection rate and atrophic gastritis prevalence have decreased over time. However, continuing endoscopic screening is important, especially for those at a high risk of developing gastric cancer complicated by severe atrophic gastritis.PMID:38679984 | DOI:10.31557/APJCP.2024.25.4.1247 (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention)

Effects of Glucagon-like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonists on Upper Endoscopy in Diabetic and Non-Diabetic Patients
Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) promote weight loss by suppressing appetite, enhancing satiety, regulating glucose metabolism and delaying gastric motility. We sought to determine whether GLP-1 RA use could impact sedated medical procedures like esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD). (Source: Gastrointestinal Endoscopy)

Predicting response to non-selective beta-blockers with liver –spleen stiffness and heart rate in patients with liver cirrhosis and high-risk varices
This study aims to define a  noninvasive machine-learning based approach to determine response to NSBB in patients with liver cirrhosis and HRVs.MethodsWe conducted a prospective study on a cohort of cirrhotic patients with documented HRVs receiving NSBB treatment. Patients were followed-up with clinical and elastography appointments at 3, 6, and 12  months after NSBB treatment initiation. NSBB response was defined as stationary or downstaging variceal grading at the 12-month esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD). In contrast, non-response was defined as upstaging variceal grading at the 12-month EGD or at least one variceal...
