Validity of the Occupational Performance Scale of the Sensory Processing Three Dimensions Measure
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: The SP3D OPS shows promise as a measure of OP. The OP deficits among children with sensory processing and integration challenges are in part due to subtype presentation. Further studies of the SP3D OPS's reliability and validity are needed.WHAT THIS ARTICLE ADDS: This new occupational performance measure shows associations between sensory processing and OP areas. It can provide information to support therapists in identifying family concerns relevant to goal setting and intervention.PMID:33657351 | DOI:10.5014/ajot.2021.044248 (Source: The American Journal of Occupational Therapy)

The experiences of foundation doctors with dyspraxia: a phenomenological study
AbstractDyspraxia, otherwise known as Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD), is a specific learning difficulty (SpLD). Its main difficulties manifest as problems with motor coordination, organisation, academic and social difficulties. There are now more students arriving at university with SpLDs, and, therefore, a similar rise may be expected within medical education. There has been no previous research focusing on dyspraxia in doctors. An interpretive phenomenological approach was used. Six UK foundation schools disseminated the announcements. Three participants took part in loosely structured telephone interviews reg...

The unmet clinical needs of children with developmental coordination disorder.
CONCLUSIONS: This critical advocacy research highlights inconsistent and incorrect terminology and the challenges families experience in obtaining a diagnosis and adequate access to therapy for their child's movement difficulties. IMPACT: This is the first comprehensive study to examine the challenges families experience gaining a diagnosis and therapy for their child with DCD. Families regularly experienced prolonged diagnosis; 45% waited between 2 and 4 years. There is no clear diagnostic pathway, with children more likely to be diagnosed with dyspraxia than the correct clinical diagnosis of DCD. More extensive i...
