Mini-probe endoscopic ultrasound for the diagnosis of congenital esophageal or duodenal stenosis
ConclusionMini-probe EUS can be recommended as a feasible and safe technique for infants and toddlers. It can effectively diagnose CES or CDS based on etiology and can inform treatment strategies for pre-school patients. (Source: Journal of Medical Ultrasonics)

Endoscopic balloon dilation management for benign duodenal stenosis
ConclusionEBD has both a high technical and clinical success for BDS regardless of etiology and should be considered over initial surgical intervention due to low risk profile. Males tend to have more distal duodenal involvement, and PPI usage is an independent predictor for clinical success. (Source: Surgical Endoscopy)

Long-term outcome after biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch: a single-center experience with up to 20 years follow-up
CONCLUSIONS: BPD/DS offers sustainable long-term weight loss but is associated with important side effects that may be acceptable in selected patients with a high initial BMI (>50 kg/m2) and/or for nonresponders after primary restrictive procedures. Regular FU is necessary to detect and treat malnutrition and vitamin deficiencies.PMID:36443216 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2022.10.020 (Source: Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases : official journal of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery)

Pitfalls and promises of bile duct alternatives: A narrative review
World J Gastroenterol. 2022 Oct 21;28(39):5707-5722. doi: 10.3748/wjg.v28.i39.5707.ABSTRACTBiliodigestive anastomosis between the extrahepatic bile duct and the intestine for bile duct disease is a gastrointestinal reconstruction that abolishes duodenal papilla function and frequently causes retrograde cholangitis. This chronic inflammation can cause liver dysfunction, liver abscess, and even bile duct cancer. Although research has been conducted for over 100 years to directly repair bile duct defects with alternatives, no bile duct substitute (BDS) has been developed. This narrative review confirms our understanding of wh...

Introduction of endoscopic ultrasound-guided hepaticoenterostomy – experience from a general hospital in Japan
Conclusions EUS-BD is now more widely used than before, and advances in the devices used have enabled the procedure to be performed more safely. Our results suggest that this introduction in medium-sized hospitals can be conducted safely.
