Thoughts/Advice for Non-Traditional Applicant
Hi SDN, As the title of this post implies, I'm looking for thoughts or advice on my current prospects of matriculating into an MD/PhD program in the near future (2-3 years). I am an non-traditional applicant (I just turned 28) and was not interested in pursuing medical school while I was in undergrad. I graduated with a double degree in Cell Biology and Biochemistry so I have all the necessary pre-reqs, but my GPA is far from great (cGPA 3.2, sGPA 3.35). When I applied to undergraduate... Taking 1 credit P/F Graduate course?
Hello, I'd like to take a graduate seminar course in cell biology for this and the next semester, just out of interest. They are both 1 credit, and are graded as P/F. Would taking these classes look suspicious or harm my chances for matriculating into a top school? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Best MCAT study programs/resources?
Hi everyone, I’m going to be studying for the MCAT over the summer. I’m looking for suggestions on an effective study resource or books to best prepare! I’m currently a biology major and I have completed most of the classes for my major so most of what I have left is my organic chemistry classes, an additional physics course, cell biology and biological chemistry and I’ll be done either next spring or summer if I push fall semester back. Penn (with 10k/yr scholarship) vs. UMich (OOS)
I sincerely would like some advice on choosing which school to attend. I have a PhD in cell biology/bone biology and am expecting myself to specialize and likely want to become a dental school faculty. UMich Pro: - strong research program - early hands-on clinic exposure - Ann Arbor is a safer city - around $10k/yr cheaper than UPenn (but I can handle the difference) - bigger international student population in the SOD Cons: - stress level: graded and ranked - harsh winter - short breaks -... Looking to reinvent, but not sure where to start? I have taken nearly every science class in the book.
Hello! I'm hoping my situation isn't super unheard of because I'm really needing some insight. I am a MD/DO hopeful looking to reinvent with a DIY postbacc. However, I have a million undergrad credits and have taken Zoology, Ecology, both sections of Human Anatomy and Physiology, Histology, Genetics, Vertebrate Physiology, Evolution, Biostatistics, Cell Biology, Micro, etc. just to name a few. I went into my most recent undergrad degrees with over 120 credits as a transfer student and... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Leptomeningeal Carcinomatosis
Case discussion time. Serious replies only please. Imagine a hypothetical young woman, 35 years old with known breast cancer on systemic therapy, well controlled and limited systemic disease, comes in to ED with headaches that become controlled on dexamethasone. MRIs of brain and total spine show subtle faint streaks and dots consistent with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis in brain and cauda equina. Lumbar puncture is performed confirming cells in CSF on cytology. You are the rad onc... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How Helpful Is a Minor
I am currently a Physiology and Neurobiology major and considering a minor in Molecular Cell Biology. I will have 7/15 MCB credits when completing my major so I will need to take an additional 3 classes to get the remaining 8 credits. In order to do so, I would need to take 18-19 credits my last three semesters (About 12-14 credits will be upper level PNB/MCB courses). Will a minor make a significant impact on my dental school application? Past SDN post have said it does not at all, however... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Orgo I, Microbiology, and Anatomy in 1 semester?
For the fall of 2020, I am scheduled to take organic I, gen. microbiology, and human anatomy, each with its own laboratory. Am I possibly making a mistake? This past semester I took cell biology, gen chem 2, and nutrition, and had no issues with As in each. Should I just shoulder the load, or replace one of these classes with physics 2? Thank you in advance. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Non traditional student- licensed NP
Thank you for reading. I want to retake some classes that I took 20 years ago so I can be better prepared for the MCAT. My undergrad GPA is 3.5 and graduate degree 3.85 at an Ivy League school. I have been a NP for 16 years and I want to be a MD for many reasons. I need to take 4 chemistry classes, cell biology and a physics class. How many months or years is it realistic to: take these classes, study for MCAT and apply? I’m 44 and feeling nervous about being too old (according to... Am I stupid for doing this?
Hi all, So I found out my school is giving us a long winter break so I plan to grind from November to March. Unfortunately that means I will only get about 1/3 of biochem and physics 2 before the test and I will not have taken sociology. I have taken bio, chem, orgo, psych, calculus, physics 1, cell biology, genetics. Is it feasible for me to self study or is this MCAT suicide? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Cell Biology or Microbiology?
I only have time to take one more biology class before my MCAT. I've taken Gen Bio I & II plus Genetics. Would you guys recommend Cell Biology or Microbiology in preparation for the MCAT? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pre-Dental: What courses should I take for upper level biology electives?
Help! I am currently in a jam with which upper level science electives to take. Here are my options: immunology, cell biology, endocrinology, molecular genetics, pathophysiology, medical botany, neurobiology, and developmental biology. I am leaning towards neurobiology, pathophysiology, medical botany, and immunology. I would take developmental biology, but the professor that teaches it at my university is kind of a joke and I heard it's really easy. I don't want to waste my time even though... Non-Science Major Question
Hello! I am currently pursuing a double major with one being Biochemistry and the other being a humanities major. In order to fit everything, I pretty much used AP credits for the basic science course (calc, bio, chem, phys). I have taken organic, first semester of biochem, lab courses, statistics, and plan to take classes like astronomy, cell biology, neuroscience, and possibly genetics by the time I apply. Upon conducting research on this matter, I have found that medical schools want a... Non-Science Major Question (Source: Student Doctor Network)
