Sensors, Vol. 24, Pages 2729: Development of a Unified IoT Platform for Assessing Meteorological and Air Quality Data in a Tropical Environment
This study addresses this challenge by introducing an affordable internet of things (IoT) monitoring system capable of tracking atmospheric pollutants and meteorological parameters. The IoT platform combines a Bresser 5-in-1 weather station with a previously developed air quality monitoring device equipped with Alphasense gas sensors. Utilizing MQTT, Node-RED, InfluxDB, and Grafana, a Raspberry Pi collects, processes, and visualizes the data it receives from the measuring device by LoRa. To validate system performance, a 15-day field campaign was conducted in Santa Clara, Cuba, using a Libelium Smart Environment Pro as a r...

From the Randomized AMBORA Trial to Clinical Practice: Comparison of Medication Errors in  Oral Antitumor Therapy
Clin Pharmacol Ther. 2024 Apr 24. doi: 10.1002/cpt.3266. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe randomized AMBORA trial showed that medication errors are frequent in patients treated with oral antitumor therapeutics and that they can be substantially reduced by an intensified clinical pharmacological/pharmaceutical care program. While randomized controlled trials are essential to generate clinical evidence, their generalizability in real-world is not always given. The AMBORA care program was implemented in clinical routine within the AMBORA Competence and Consultation Center (AMBORA Center) at the Comprehensive Cancer Center Er...

Disparities in incidence and survival for patients with Ewing sarcoma in Florida
ConclusionsFlorida Hispanic males have a higher-than-expected incidence of osseous ES compared to the US. Hispanics of both sexes show remarkably worse survival for nonmetastatic disease compared to NHW. This disparity is likely multifactorial and requires further in-depth studies. Coordinating Complex Discharge to Cuba at End of Life
1. Collaborate within an interdisciplinary team to help facilitate complex discharge process for patients at end of life, to provide goal-concordant care, and to establish safe lines of communication.2. Understand importance of verbal and written communication with interpreter services to address language barriers, elicit patient values and goals, and coordinate safe discharge plan. Cuban Macaw Ara tricolor in the Upper Pleistocene of Western Cuba
Dokl Biol Sci. 2024 Mar 27. doi: 10.1134/S0012496624700947. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe Cuban macaw Ara tricolor (Bechstein, 1811) is an extinct species of large parrots. Its historical distribution and ecology are poorly understood. To date, only three late Quaternary paleontological and one archeozoological (17th-18th centuries) finds of the species have been described from central Cuba. A new (fourth) fossil find of the Cuban macaw is described and is a fragmentary carpometacarpus from Upper Pleistocene layers of the El Abrón Cave in the Pinar del Río province. The find provides the first documented evidence of ...
