Ghosts and Ghosting in Digital Communications
Am J Pharm Educ. 2024 Mar 27:100692. doi: 10.1016/j.ajpe.2024.100692. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGhosting, professionally and personally, occurs when there is an abrupt end to communication between two individuals without any explanation or when an individual does not follow through on commitments to others associated with their communication. The increase in the available communication channels and speed at which messages can now be transmitted between individuals is resulting in a greater incidence of ghosting or perceived ghosting in our colleges/schools of pharmacy. The impact of ghosting is the disruption of effect...

The Use and Knowledge Around Vaping and Their Correlates Among University Students —A Cross-sectional Australian Study
AbstractThe increasing prevalence of e-cigarette use ( “vaping”) among youth has emerged as a public health concern. We aim to explore vape use, knowledge levels, and correlates in a sample of Australian young adults. Participants from six residential university colleges in Queensland, Australia, were invited to complete an online survey. The sample included 716 students (Mage=18.1 years). Correlates of vape use and knowledge examined included socio-demographic variables, other substance use, and mental health, including PHQ-9 depression and GAD-7 anxiety. In our sample, 62% of students reported lifetime vaping. Just u...

A clinical antiracism curriculum for third ‐year medical students to bring antiracist principles to the bedside
AbstractAs medical educators, we have a responsibility to ensure our trainees are exposed to curricula dedicated to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), as illustrated by the Association of American Medical Colleges' recently released DEI Competencies Across the Curriculum. We designed and implemented a curriculum, Social Justice Rounds (SJR), that incorporates teaching on these topics directly into inpatient clinical work. SJR are brief team-based discussions facilitated by Pediatric Hospital Medicine faculty that focus on racism in medicine and other forms of discrimination experienced by patients and the effect it ha...

Now, states are taking things into their own hands. What they are learning could help India better address economic and health inequities and allow social scientists to chart the changes sweeping the country. In October 2023, the northern state of Bihar released findings ...
