Childhood trauma and alcohol misuse in college students: The moderating role of minimization
CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that a tendency to minimize threatening childhood events may specifically be related to increased risk of greater alcohol misuse among college students. Therefore, it may be important for clinician to assess minimization of early events in students with a history of childhood trauma.PMID:38581770 | DOI:10.1016/j.chiabu.2024.106749 (Source: Child Abuse and Neglect)

Adjunct Preceptor Perceptions of Motivation, Understanding, and Support for the Precepting Role
CONCLUSION: This study provides a formal evaluation of adjunct preceptor perceptions of their precepting role. Compared to previous studies, these results may indicate lower satisfaction with precepting, suggesting opportunities exist to improve the adjunct precepting experience. Actions by school/colleges of pharmacy are necessary to ensure experiential education capacity including addressing workload concerns, increasing preceptor recognition and appreciation, and supporting preceptors when students need extra coaching.PMID:38582310 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajpe.2024.100697 (Source: American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education)

Persistence of changed attitudes among students in an integrated anatomy curriculum
AbstractMany medical schools in the United States have integrated anatomy into an organ-based preclinical curriculum with some schools using anatomy as the cornerstone of their reorganization efforts. Curricular change could affect one or more of the three domains of learning, with the cognitive domain often scrutinized exclusively. A previous study reported the impact of anatomy integration on the affective domain, specifically, student attitudes toward learning anatomy. This mixed methods follow-up study asked if the observed attitudinal changes and lack of effect on student knowledge and confidence persisted using knowl...

How Did Black and Hispanic Orthopaedic Applicants and Residents Compare to General Surgery Between 2015 and 2022?
CONCLUSION: We found low acceptance of Black residents compared with the higher recruitment of Black applicants, as well as overall low proportions of Black and Hispanic applicants and residents. Future studies might explore the factors contributing to the higher acceptances of Hispanic orthopaedic residents than Black orthopaedic residents.CLINICAL RELEVANCE: We recommend that more emphasis should be placed on increasing Black and Hispanic representation at the department level to ensure cultural considerations remain at the forefront of applicant recruitment. Internal or external reviews of residency selection processes ...

Telehealth Virtual Simulation Across the Family Nurse Practitioner Curriculum
Nurs Educ Perspect. 2024 Apr 4. doi: 10.1097/01.NEP.0000000000001262. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe American Association of Colleges of Nursing recognizes telehealth education as an essential aspect of nurse practitioner (NP) education because it increases accessibility to health care. Studies reported in the literature have focused on NP telehealth simulation, but findings for the inclusion of simulation in multiple courses throughout the curriculum are scarce. This pre- and post-survey design study aimed to evaluate family nurse practitioner students' perceptions of knowledge, confidence, and attitudes regarding tele...
