Peace Corps and Applying
Hello everyone! After realizing that I was slightly burned out and wanting to at least explore parts of the world beyond the classroom, I decided to try something different. I'll be serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mozambique from this September through approximately November 2019. During that time, I was planning on taking my MCAT and applying while over there. My concern quite simply is whether getting back in late November will lower the chance that I am extended interviews or... Peace Corps and Applying (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How to start off MS1 Year?
Hello guys, I am an entering MS1. Lately, I have been swamped with so much information about organizations and opportunities from medical school orientation. Many MS2+ recommended that I should look into First Aid, Pathoma, Firecracker, etc. I just got into medical school. I will attend my first classroom lecture in the coming week. I have no idea on how to fully leverage these resources. For example, do I attend lecture and use these resources alongside the lecture materials? Or do I study... How to start off MS1 Year? Thinking about joining the National Guard as a 68W, what am I getting myself into?
My first 2 years of college were riddled with hurdles that were hard to jump. Loss of family members really does take a toll on someone, so damn much. The hurdles both financial and emotional have been coming in non-stop, but I have began improving my grades and can guarantee an improvement in my GPA. I have landed a job at a hospital as well, having constant patient interaction. It's been getting better. My failures in the classroom, however, have left a permanent dent in my chance of... Current 2nd years, how was 1st year?
I know each of the 9 schools has a somewhat unique curriculum than the rest. I also know that we all have own study habits and methods and what worked for you may not work for me. That said, I'm hoping for some opinions from current 2nd years about the following questions. Thanks for your time!! How did you study for classes during the first year? How many hours a day did you study? Did you have a life outside of the classrooms & lectures, like a hobby, going out, or any social life? Did... Current 2nd years, how was 1st year? Are my EC's weak?
-1500+ clinical hours--mostly scribing with small amount of volunteering (<30 hours over the past 5 months) I'm aware this amount of clinical time is strong but I feel there are many applicants with this amount of hours and more volunteer oriented. -100 hours non-clinical volunteering-- tutoring, elementary classroom aid, manual labor -1 healthcare leadership position -involvement in 1 hospital quality control committee. -involvement in 1 community project. -few miscellaneous clubs.... Question about Military Coursework Designations
So I was in the military before entering a four year college. I received college credit for the training I had throughout the four years, and this credit is shown on a transcript. There was however no term designated for when I received these credits, but they all transferred to my 4 year institution. I was never in a college classroom, never defined as a college student, I was just given these credits due to my training crossing over. When I got to my 4 year college, they assigned me the... Podiatry Career Path
I'm a little confused as to what the career pathway for a podiatrist is. Here is what I have so far: 1) 4 Years of Podiatry School; take the boards after 2 years of classroom learning and complete last 2 years in clinics 2) Apply for residency program of 3 years; does this allow you to pursue surgery? 3) Pursue a fellowship program; what benefits would this have and why would someone want to do this? "Flipped classrooms" and video lectures at U of Vermont: would you attend?
U of Vermont medical school to get rid of all lecture courses Was looking up info about UVM and came across this article. I'll probably still apply here next year, but with this info I'd think twice before choosing it over a more traditional program. How do you fellow premeds feel about eliminating lectures and replacing them with group sessions? I think that I personally... Need Input on how to Address some IAs
So, I have a decently solid application but there is one big problem. I have 3 IAs. Things get interesting at #3. 1) for alcohol and fire safety in the dorms. That one is pretty annoying because the fire safety part was that my roommate had a hotplate that he refused to stop using. The alcohol part was a vase of flowers that was a jack bottle, I had gotten it for valentine's day. But here are the big ones. 2) Classroom disruption - Made one of my friends laugh repeatedly in class.... Need Input on how to Address some IAs (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Buffalo vs. Quinnipiac (Netter)
Hey all! I was accepted off the Buffalo waitlist this morning and now am torn between here and Quinnipiac. I absolutely love both schools, and wanted your input before I decided. Any suggestions would be helpful! Here are some pros/cons for each: Buffalo Pros -IS tuition (SUNY) -new building to open next spring (new labs, classrooms, tech, etc) -students and faculty are super friendly; there is no sense of competition between people -lots of research opportunities/facilities... RVUCOM-CO vs Touro
Hi everyone! Last thread I saw about this was back in 2014 so I would really appreciate any updated feedback ! Some background info: from the bay area and would like to be in CA eventually. very pro non-didactic teaching methods (eg. TBL, flipped classroom, etc.) interested in EM. RVUCOM Pros: students and faculty seemed very welcoming. I liked that the students kept coming into the interview area and stealing brownies. They were very friendly and open to answering... Unethical classroom activity
I'm on a psychotherapy degree course. So in class the tutors got us to look at a case study. They made comments hinting that it was about me and I felt belittled. The funny thing is that it didn't describe me except for one similarity. The irony is that, perhaps without them realising, the description/analysis summed up one of my classmates, and my classmate got quite upset and paranoid afterwards. Anyway, I felt it was very unethical for counselling professionals to make people feel unsafe... Unethical classroom activity (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Touro, NY -Middletown vs BGU-MSIH, Israel
Touro, NY Middletown Pros Close to where I live now (NYC). My wife works and lives in NYC. Flipped classroom curriculum which is attractive for my learning style. Very modern facilities with plastination, 3D modeling, and anatomy labs. Osteopathic American medical school. Excellent 1st time pass rates and good decent allopathic residency placements in all specialties. Many residency locations are unknown to me in smaller hospitals. Cons Not...
