Suspected Reaction with Cephalosporin May Be a Predictive Factor for β-Lactam Allergy in Children
Conclusion: Our study indicates that most patients with a suspected β-lactam allergy tolerated this drug. An appropriate diagnostic allergy workup may prevent the use of less effective and more expensive alternatives.Int Arch Allergy Immunol (Source: International Archives of Allergy and Immunology)

Community-Acquired Pneumonia in Children.
CONCLUSION: In previously healthy children under the age of 5 years, high dose amoxicillin is the treatment of choice. For those with type 1 hypersensitivity to penicillin, clindamycin, azithromycin, clarithromycin, and levofloxacin are reasonable alternatives. For children with a non-type 1 hypersensitivity to penicillin, cephalosporins such as cefixime, cefprozil, cefdinir, cefpodoxime, and cefuroxime should be considered. In previously healthy children over the age of 5 years, macrolides such as azithromycin and clarithromycin are the drugs of choice. PMID: 29932038 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: R...

Biosynthesis of Cefprozil in an Aqueous Two-Phase System Composed of pH-Responsive Copolymers and its Crystallization Analysis
Publication date: Available online 7 October 2017 Source:Process Biochemistry Author(s): Hongxia Pan, Ting Yang, Jialing Chen, Xuejun Cao Cefprozil, a semi-synthetic antibiotic, has been used in pediatric therapy. The purpose of this study was to improve the yield of cefprozil and obtain purer product in an aqueous two-phase system composed of PADB and PMDB. PADB and PMDB were synthesized using acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, 2-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate, and butyl methacrylate. Cefprozil was synthesized with 7-amino-3-(1-propenyl)-4-cephalosporanic acid (7-APRA) as the main ring, (R)-amino-(4-hydroxyphenyl) ace...

Effects of quercetin on pharmacokinetics of cefprozil in Chinese-Han male volunteers.
Abstract 1. The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of quercetin on the pharmacokinetics of cefprozil. The secondary objective was to evaluate the safety of the combined use of cefprozil and quercetin. 2. An open-label, two-period, crossover phase I trial among 24 Han Chinese male subjects was conducted. Participants were given 500 mg of quercetin orally once daily for 15 d followed by single dose of cefprozil (500 mg) on day 15. Serum concentrations of cefprozil were then measured in all participants on day 15. A 15-d washout period was then assigned after which a 500 mg dose...

In Vitro Activity of Oral Cephalosporins (Cefprozil and Cefixime) Against Ciprofloxacin-Resistant Enterobacteriaceae from Community-Acquired Urinary-Tract Infections
Conclusion Results suggest that cefprozil and cefixime remain a good therapeutic alternative against urine enterobacteria particularly in case of ciprofloxacin-resistant pathogens. Their activity against ESBL-producing pathogens is limited. (Source: Infectious Diseases and Therapy)
