Pharmacokinetic and Bioequivalence Evaluation of Two Cefprozil Dispersible Tablets in Healthy Chinese Volunteers
This study aimed to assess the bioequivalence of 2 cefprozil dispersible tablet formulations (250  mg) in healthy Chinese volunteers under fasting and fed conditions and to determine the pharmacokinetics of cefprozil. A randomized, single-dose, open-label, 2-formulation, 2-period study was conducted. The elimination period for this study was 7 days. Forty-eight healthy volunteers received 250-m g cefprozil dispersible tablets in each study period under both test and reference conditions. The test and the reference cefprozil were bioequivalent in healthy Chinese volunteers, and there was no significant food effect in indiv...

Heterologous expression, purification, and characterization of thermo- and alkali-tolerant laccase-like multicopper oxidase from Bacillus mojavensis TH309 and determination of its antibiotic removal potential
Arch Microbiol. 2023 Jul 16;205(8):287. doi: 10.1007/s00203-023-03626-5.ABSTRACTLaccases or laccase-like multicopper oxidases have great potential in bioremediation to oxidase phenolic or non-phenolic substrates. However, their inability to maintain stability in harsh environmental conditions and against non-substrate compounds is one of the main reasons for their limited use. The gene (mco) encoding multicopper oxidase from Bacillus mojavensis TH309 were cloned into pET14b( +), expressed in Escherichia coli, and purified as histidine tagged enzyme (BmLMCO). The molecular weight of the enzyme was about 60 kDa. The enzyme e...

In addition, he reported fatigue, fevers, and chills. He had quit smoking a year earlier and was not a drug user. He recently had spent most of his free time outdoors, mountain biking, but had not travelled outside of Canada. Medical history was unremarkable. He did not take any medication. A child with Kawasaki disease successfully treated with Chinese herbal medicine: a case report with 12-month follow up
ConclusionsIn this case, CHM may be an effective alternative therapy for the treatment of KD, and furthermore, may also be applied as an option to salvage failed intravenous immunoglobulin procedures. Further controlled trials are warranted to determine whether this is an effective treatment option for other cases of KD. (Source: European Journal of Integrative Medicine)

Suspected Reaction with Cephalosporin May Be a Predictive Factor for β-Lactam Allergy in Children
Conclusion: Our study indicates that most patients with a suspected β-lactam allergy tolerated this drug. An appropriate diagnostic allergy workup may prevent the use of less effective and more expensive alternatives.Int Arch Allergy Immunol (Source: International Archives of Allergy and Immunology)

Community-Acquired Pneumonia in Children.
CONCLUSION: In previously healthy children under the age of 5 years, high dose amoxicillin is the treatment of choice. For those with type 1 hypersensitivity to penicillin, clindamycin, azithromycin, clarithromycin, and levofloxacin are reasonable alternatives. For children with a non-type 1 hypersensitivity to penicillin, cephalosporins such as cefixime, cefprozil, cefdinir, cefpodoxime, and cefuroxime should be considered. In previously healthy children over the age of 5 years, macrolides such as azithromycin and clarithromycin are the drugs of choice. PMID: 29932038 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: R...

Biosynthesis of Cefprozil in an Aqueous Two-Phase System Composed of pH-Responsive Copolymers and its Crystallization Analysis
Publication date: Available online 7 October 2017 Source:Process Biochemistry Author(s): Hongxia Pan, Ting Yang, Jialing Chen, Xuejun Cao Cefprozil, a semi-synthetic antibiotic, has been used in pediatric therapy. The purpose of this study was to improve the yield of cefprozil and obtain purer product in an aqueous two-phase system composed of PADB and PMDB. PADB and PMDB were synthesized using acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, 2-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate, and butyl methacrylate. Cefprozil was synthesized with 7-amino-3-(1-propenyl)-4-cephalosporanic acid (7-APRA) as the main ring, (R)-amino-(4-hydroxyphenyl) ace...
