Genes, Vol. 15, Pages 73: Estimation of Genetic Diversity and Number of Unique Genotypes of Cassava Germplasm from Burkina Faso Using Microsatellite Markers
This study was carried out to assess the genetic diversity and the number of unique multilocus genotypes (MLGs) in a cassava collection in Burkina Faso. To achieve this objective, 130 cassava accessions were genotyped using 32 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers. The results revealed that among these markers, twelve (12) were highly informative, with polymorphic information content (PIC) values greater than 0.50; twelve (12) were moderately informative, with PIC values ranging between 0.25 and 0.50; and eight (8) were not very informative, with PIC values lower than 0.25. A moderate level of genetic diversity was found fo...

IJERPH, Vol. 21, Pages 53: Pregnancy Desirability and Motivational Readiness for Postpartum Contraceptive Use: Findings from Population-Based Surveys in Eight Sub-Saharan African Countries
This study examined the associations between pregnancy intention and motivational readiness for postpartum contraceptive use. Data for this cross-sectional analysis were derived from nationally representative surveys of the Performance Monitoring and Accountability 2020 (PMA2020) project conducted in eight sub-Saharan African countries. Participants included 9488 nonpregnant women of reproductive age (15–49 years) who had given birth in the last 2 years. Weighted multinomial logistic regression analyses were performed to estimate the odds ratios (OR) and their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of t...

Implementation and Evaluation of a Training Program for Traditional Healers to Improve Knowledge of Noma (Cancrum Oris) in Burkina Faso
Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2023 Dec 26:tpmd230407. doi: 10.4269/ajtmh.23-0407. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNoma (cancrum oris) is an orofacial gangrene affecting young children living in extreme poverty. The acute morbidity is high, and survivors suffer from physical and social sequelae. When diagnosed early, noma can be cured. Noma is especially prevalent in sub-Saharan Africa, where traditional medicine is the norm. The aim of this work was to provide 1-day training to traditional healers in Burkina Faso and to evaluate change in knowledge of noma across time. A sample of 78 healers who attended the training were asked to comp...
